To have rang the non emergency police on this guy?

There is a man clearly off his head kicking and punching the door of the house opposite ours. I've never seen him before and know there is a woman and child that live in the house.

He is talking to himself and is punching glass.

Help! What else should I do?

I would ring the emergency number as the crime is currently taking place.

RubyFakeNails · 03/06/2012 00:50

Also do you know her number, or name so you can look it up an call to see if she is ok.

I wouldn't confront him if you are on your own and aren't certain the police are coming yet.

GinevraMollyWeasley · 03/06/2012 00:51

I'd be calling 999. Immediately. Better to be safe than sorry.

ToothbrushThief · 03/06/2012 00:52

999

Sarcalogos · 03/06/2012 00:56

999

DailyMailSpy · 03/06/2012 00:57

He may have lost his keys and it could be entirely innocent.

But it could also be a lot worse than that too...

If it's all innocent then police could help him to call a locksmith, if more serious then you would have done the right thing. Call 999.

WorraLiberty · 03/06/2012 00:58

God yes of course you're being unreasonable calling an emergency number in the case of an obvious emergency???

Pearla · 03/06/2012 00:59

Sod the non emergency police, DIAL 999 NOW.

Pearla · 03/06/2012 01:00

Better dial 999 and it be nothing than a woman and child get hurt. He could be a loon. The police WILL NOT think you're wasting their time.

kahlua4me · 03/06/2012 01:07

Yes, ring 999. The police will not think you are wasting their time.
Especially as you know it is a woman and child that live there, not the man.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 03/06/2012 01:10

Hope the OP is ringing them now! Sad

AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 01:27

Sorry freaking out

I did ring 999 and they told me to ring the non emergency number (I'm in Ni) as he could be stuck outside.

OP posts:
AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 01:29

Police just pulled up.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/06/2012 01:29

Ditto, everyone. have rung the Police a lot of times (scary job) and this would be a 999 job, definitely.

AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 01:41

Apparently there is no one at the house right now, Thank goodness. The guy is still there though.

Why is that?

"I did ring 999 and they told me to ring the non emergency number (I'm in Ni) as he could be stuck outside"

Given the very real danger to women of drunk / violent partners / exPs, I'm shocked and angry that they didn't take it more seriously on 999.

I mean great they've come out so quickly, but 999 shoudl have dealt with it IMO.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/06/2012 01:47

I had this once on 911 (in North America). A very scary, mentally ill client was threatening staff, I called 911 and the women said, in a bored voice, "do you know you've called 911?". Luckily the client had very comic timing and chose that moment to slam both his fists down on the counter next to the phone and scream, "I'll kill all you cunts". They came with lights and sirens.

AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 01:53

DP wanted to go out but I didn't want him to make it worse or get hurt (if he had got the door open we both would ran over). There was a neighbor who shouted that no on was in the house but I rang anyway having seen a woman and very young child walking to and from the house recently.

I said the house was in darkness so perhaps that's why they told me to ring the non emergency number, I dunno it's the first time I have had to do this sort of thing.

He is still there kicking the door now even after they left!

Call the non emergency number again, (sounding very distressed!)

say that he is still causing a disturbance and the police have been and gone, you are worried he will end up hurting himself, and you want him out of your street.

GColdtimer · 03/06/2012 02:23

Agree phone them again.

AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 02:23

Thanks catdoll, I rang as the guy just lay down on the ground outside the door and passed out, It's really raining. I got a call back from the same community officer (who sounded rather pissed off) and they will be back out.

DP thinks he has the wrong house, It has been rented out by a few people over the past year so hopefully the woman and her DC have moved.

OP posts:
AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 02:27

Should I go out?

OP posts:
AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2012 02:28

No, I know.

Argh.

OP posts:
whatsapussycatdoll · 03/06/2012 02:33

you have done everything you can. just keep an eye out for the police

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/06/2012 04:15

You could always call for an ambulance and then the Police would probably turn up anyway as well.
