...Packing my bags in Morrisons? Had a sweet girl offering to pack for some fundraising thing but I like packing my bags my way!! I know I'm anal about it but surely I shouldn't get glared at by her adult supervisor? I did give her some money under duress but I hate being hassled like this! AIBU?

Yanbu. I always refuse help as I like my bags packed in the order they go into my cupboards at home.

ToothbrushThief · 02/06/2012 19:31

YANBU. My daughter did this last year for charity and it has made me view it differently but I would still rather pack my own bags - in fact would pay them to let me!!!

TidyDancer · 02/06/2012 19:34

YANBU. This is a pet hate of mine. I suspect the overwhelming majority of people feel the same.

susiedaisy · 02/06/2012 19:34

YANBU last time the cubs were in morrisons I had to give the boy who helped me a lesson on packing, luckily he was a quick learner otherwise it could of gotten ugly Grin

rainydaysarebad · 02/06/2012 19:36

Actually I like my bags being packed, especially when I have a crying baby in the trolley and need to soothe him and keep an eye on a boisterous DD. Best thing ever.

Bethan31 · 02/06/2012 19:36

Yanbu. I like to choose who I give charity too, rather than being under duress. I like to pack my own bags too.

DublinMammy · 02/06/2012 19:37

YANBU hate the careless packing "technique" of these annoying buggers charity collectors.

Bethan31 · 02/06/2012 19:38

I would happily donate to cubs or whoever if they would litter pick the local park

Mrsjay · 02/06/2012 19:41

DD1 works in a supermarket and she groans when the bag packers come in , she says people do like to pack their back in order etc and hate the packers , I know its for charity but.....

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/06/2012 21:00

I hate this too, as a customer. And as checkout staff, I was a bit Hmm that I had to instruct the scout (maybe 14 years old?) in how to pack a bag, because he'd obviously had no instruction from the scout leaders/anyone Angry. FFS, how many brain cells have to be engaged to realise that you do not crush fresh apricots by putting the 2.5kg bag of potatoes on top of them?

lovebunny · 02/06/2012 21:07

pet hate of mine. i don't want people packing my bags - i know how to pack and they don't. they don't know where i store food. i pack according to how i unpack.
and i don't want directing to a checkout with no-one waiting. i want someone in front of me so i can unpack in a logical way ready for packing. and i'd like the checkout staff to put the items through in the order i have them on the conveyor belt.
but i want to live in lovebunny-country. this world isn't good enough...

lola88 · 02/06/2012 22:00

YANBU i hate that. I had to get that guy to help me pack last week because DS was having an almighty screaming fit choking going purple the works when i got home i had burst milk and squashed fruit.

There is so much better things they can do to raise funds that would actually be usefull. I know if someone came to the door and asked for £ to wash the car everyone in my street would do a happy dance

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/06/2012 22:00

Ah but lovebunny, although some of us (me included) may see that as the only way to go through a checkout; the reason the scout was making a hash of packing was because that was exactly what he WAS doing Grin.

Most people come to the checkout with heavy items in the bottom of the basket and the light things on the top. Because no matter what order they place things into the basket, they (presumably) will automatically e.g. lift the crisps to one side to place the litre of orange juice under it. Then they get to the checkout, and as free belt inches its way into sight, they cover it with whatever is on the top - so that it effectively ends up in reverse order IYSWIM.

Strange but true!

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2012 22:01

I'd be very very surprised if you were actually 'glared at' OP.

I (and many many customers) often refuse.

If they glared at everyone they'd have squinty eyes before the day's out.

WhiteWidow · 02/06/2012 22:03

I can't see them glaring at you. Don't they prefer it when you don't want help?

Nagoo · 02/06/2012 22:03

I give them 50p and ask them not to do it.

Well, I used to. Now I online shop. Life is too short for supermarkets.

MsKittyFane · 02/06/2012 22:04

I always let them help me pack. They get a bag each and I push certain items their way. For example, one gets all of the veg and fruit, another gets dry store cupboard things and I do the fridge stuff.
If you stand near to the cashier and they stand at the end it works fine!! I wouldn't have given up my Saturday as a child/ teenager so they deserve my money just for being there!

enimmead · 02/06/2012 22:04

Asked if I wanted help today.

With 4 items :)

hiddenhome · 02/06/2012 22:04

Just go through the self service checkouts Smile

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2012 22:07

The reason I never want help is because I walk to and from the supermarket.

Therefore I don't need my bag packed 'properly', I need it packed evenly so I'm not walking home like a lop-sided camel.

Passmethecrisps · 02/06/2012 22:07

YANBU and I have been in charge of a group of teens raising funds. Poor kids stood at empty tills while the one till which was unmanned had a queue snaking to the back of the store. I recently had my bag packed by some mini-footballers who commented on every vegetable I had bought "what's this? It looks like a tree" (it was broccoli) "oo, I like the look of that!" "ew, I hate that"

I usually smile sweetly, throw more coins than is really necessary in their bucket and refuse help.

CardyMow · 02/06/2012 22:08

I put my heavy stuff at the end of the trolley nearest to the handle, and the 'squishy' stuff at the end furthest away from the handle - so I just spin the trolley round at the checkout, take the stuff nearest the handle end first (the heavy stuff), and then spin the trolley back, and put the 'squishy' stuff on at the end.

Voila! Heavy stuff on the conveyor belt first, 'squishy' stuff on afterwards.

I also put them BACK in the trolley with the heavy stuff near the handle, so that I can unpack it into the car / taxi with the heavy stuff at the bottom.

Akermanis · 02/06/2012 22:09

would it ruin any ones day to let them pack your bags? I hate these 1st world problems.......

HecateTrivia · 02/06/2012 22:10

I'm the same. I have a System and nobody is allowed to mess it up Grin

I chuck a quid in the bucket and say thanks, but no.

HecateTrivia · 02/06/2012 22:12

It would greatly inconvenience me. So no. They can't. They can, however, have a quid off me anyway.
