To send a 'blind' email to this person?

I have a simple email address which I use for freecycle etc. Its a shortened version of my name which I was lucky enough to get when gmail was still relatively new.

Recently I have been getting all kinds of emails -confirmation of bookings ,orders etc. which are not mine.

At first I wasn't too bothered as often people have email addresses that they dont really use or have copied wrongly just one time. However these emails are now growing in number so Im getting more anxious that the woman they are intended for will miss out on something important. There have been round robin type emails from a local political party for example.

There is an address on one confirmation email . The address is in Ireland ,County Tipperary to be exact, and even includes a phone number(I think its a phone number anyway-not familiar with Southern Irish telephone numbers).

I have toyed with trying to contact the person by letter or phone but just know that I will leave it and leave it as I hate starting this type of contact. I am fine with emailing though as its less formal.

The problem is ...how do I get the email to her?Should I just do all sorts of variations on the name and hope that one of the recipients is her?

And how to word such an email so that it doesnt sound like its from some mad woman. Confused

Just got another one this morning, from a lady telling her she saw pictures of the new baby and looking for the mums address!

As someone said up thread, this lady has numbers after her name in her email address so I just forward them on to that address.

Monisey:

So you are saying your address is
[email protected]

And you got an email for
[email protected]?

And [email protected] wasn't an address email was sent too?

I wonder if, say, an L in the name was replaced with a 1, which could be easily misread. Though in SB automated system you'd think the original typed version would be used. Have you tried texting. OP?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/06/2012 09:49

An email system cannot misread an email address. Emails can only be delivered to the wrong email address if the sender sends them to the wrong email address.

If the address sent to is not yours (not including the dots thing), then your address must be in the BCC field.

No, I meant misread by a human. Hence my further comment about not happening with an automated system.

It sounds like someone thinks their email address is the one you use. She's entering it incorrectly when ordering things, and that explains why you are getting the confirmations.

It will take you forever to attempt to guess what her format is. I'd text or phone the mobile number and let her know personally. It will cost you a little, but think of the positive karma!

Text the lady on her mobile phone number, no speaking required!!

I have a gmail account I use very rarely and for nothing important. However, I have been getting emails from other people that are nothing like my address.

My email address is: initial intitial surname numeral numeral @ gmail.com (no spaces)

I have had emails copied to me from people with the same name (my first name my surname) but with an email address bearing no relation to mine, e.g. myfirstname my surname@ something not gmail. ac. us

It happens fairly frequently and the emails appear to be genuine and not spam. My email address is never evident and I can see the intended recipient's email address which has not been mistyped. As a result, I'd never use gmail for something personal or important.

Monisey · 03/06/2012 11:52

My email address is firstnamelastname@.... And the other persons is firstnamelastname00 (for example). People are forgetting to put in the numbers after her names.

Probably an easy mistake to make, but it is annoying!

Hopefully the situation has now been resolved.

I emailed one of the private contacts for help ,just a short explanatory note attached to the original email.

I got a reply last night to say that the contact would advise the intended recipient of the problem and this should solve the problem .Turns out the original recipient had used an S in place of Z. Both email addresses use just the first part of a longer name but she had to alter hers as I had taken the more obvious version.

Weirdly though she then added that she was actually sitting next to a woman with the same name as me .Totally unconnected to either me or the original recipient Confused

So now I know Tipperary is a weird place . Smile
