Ummmm a shirt seems far to grown up and uncomfortable.
Would a polo shirt and tie look terrible!?

are the ties compulsory?? yanbu it seems a bit much for reception
round here i've only seen ties starting from junior and in the infants they just have polo shirt and jumper

scuzy · 01/06/2012 20:35

not sure what exactly you are talking about but i think a tie with a polo shirt would look awful.

scuzy · 01/06/2012 20:35

do you mean a receptionist job or is this something to do with school?

alphabite · 01/06/2012 20:35

Poor little things. Polo should be fine but have a look at what the other pupils wear when you go past.

CMOTDibbler · 01/06/2012 20:38

DS had a shirt and tie (on elastic) from reception. Didn't bother him, and shirts wash much better than polos

MrsMellowDrummer · 01/06/2012 20:40

My daughter (age 4) wears a shirt and tie as winter uniform.

It's fine. She likes it.
Summer uniform is a light cotton dress - she moans about this for some reason.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/06/2012 20:42

My DD had to wear a proper shirt and tie in reception...she was fine....they're not made of paper.

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 01/06/2012 20:43

DD wears a shirt and tie (not elastic) and they all look absolutely gorgeous. Have had no problems and no complaints that he is uncomfortable. When it's hot they can take the tie off and undo their top button

CrumpettyTree · 01/06/2012 20:50

My dd has worn a shirt and tie from Year one and none of the children seem to mind. In recep they wear a polo and sweater and my younger dd who is currently in recep has found the sweater a right pain as it is a struggle to get it over her head (think she has a large head!) She also gets really hot in it, and had to keep taking it on and off until she stopped wearing it in the recent hot weather. Woollen cardis are easier to take on and off and don't get so hot.

TheCunnyFunt · 01/06/2012 21:16

My nephew (5) wears a tie for school, my neice (3) goes to the pre school at the same school as nephew, she wears a tie aswell. So do the 2yos that go there. My niece and nephew don't mind them at all!

CrumpettyTree · 01/06/2012 21:29

Wow! 2 year olds in ties. How funny and sweet. I'd like to see that! :o

CrumpettyTree · 01/06/2012 21:31

Oh. Meant to say that my dd hated the three packs of M&S shirts as she found the collar really stiff and uncomfortable. I bought shirts from Next and they are much better. She is happy in them.

LST · 01/06/2012 21:37

I used to wear shirt and tie when I was in reception. Never a problem for me Grin

Jaffacakeeater · 01/06/2012 21:39

My DTs started wearing shirts and ties aged 3 and after initial grumbling have been fine. I imagine if it's a school that expects Reception class to wear ties then they wouldn't be impressed with the polo shirt combo.

NinthRoyalWave · 01/06/2012 21:55

My DS's school wear shirts & ties in Reception, it doesn't bother him. I don't put him in long-sleeve shirts though, as the cuffs are tricky for him.

TheCunnyFunt · 01/06/2012 22:10

Should add that N&N go to a posh prep school for ages 2 - 11yo. They even have straw boaters for their summer uniform and cute kind of bowler hats for winter uniform :o

LynetteScavo · 01/06/2012 22:17

Yes, a polo. shirt and tie would look terrible.

We're a funny country, sticking very small children in ties and shirts with stiff collars and thinking they look smart/cute.

Floggingmolly · 01/06/2012 22:57

If they insist on a tie as part of the uniform, you can be fairly sure they'll insist on a shirt too.

CrumpettyTree · 01/06/2012 23:15

It is odd Lynette. I feel a bit funny sometimes when I drop the children at school and I am wearing jeans, t shirt and flip flops while they are all smart in shirt, tie, socks and shoes. Should be the other way round.
