to not use anti ageing cream at 25?

I know I am being unreasonable. I use olay anti ageing eye cream at night when I remember which isn't v often. I'd like to start using a face cream but I looked in boots and superdrug today and...holy shit, WHY IS THERE SO MUCH CHOICE? Can anyone who takes better care of their skin than me suggest one maybe?

With SPF. no more than £15 (am I naive to think I can get a good one for that price?)

I'm 33 and have never put any sort of cream on my face, I hate the feel of it. .

So I am relying on genetics to see me through Grin. My mum has only just started using a moisturizing cream on her face in the last couple of years, since turning 60. I don't think she has wrinkles.

I don't use a daily SPF: in the UK you need some unprotected sunlight exposure to avoid vit D deficiancy. So it only goes on if I intend to be out for a long time, or if its very sunny.

That said, I generally use very basic skin products (rarely makeup and cheap mosturiser/cleanser) because I've found they work just as well/are less irritating.

CrispyCod · 01/06/2012 13:26

Anything with an SPF in it does the job. The higher the price of a products doesn't necessarily make it better.

I'd not be too bothered by the anti-aging stuff. It's mostly faff and marketing gimmicks.

As long as you have a good moisturiser, a pH balanced soap and sunscreem, Bob's your uncle. :)

lolajane2009 · 01/06/2012 15:49

i dont at 30 but tbh i avoid the sun as i hate tanning my skin

brighthair · 01/06/2012 16:05

I'm 28 and I use neutrogena multi defence, has SPF 15

Wigglewoo · 01/06/2012 16:08

I used to be (in a past life) a skin care researcher and then consultant with Clinique and then Chanel..... The only thing worth putting on your skin is an SPF of 25 or over every day of the year. It's the best anti age thing you can do. That and lots of water.

Anything else is fancy packaging and placebo effect.

McKayz · 01/06/2012 16:09

I am 26 and don't use any anti ageing stuff. I do just moisturise with Nivea stuff.

TheCunningStunt · 01/06/2012 16:12

I use Suncream. That's it. No make up and no moisturiser. I am probably not the best to ask. I drink lots though and thankfully have good genes that I am relying on to see me throughGrin

LaFataTurchina · 01/06/2012 16:13

I just wash my face with water in the shower/when I'm brushing my teeth.

Occasionally put 'simple' moisturizer on if my skin is feeling dry, I only wear sunscreen if I'm going to be spending all day in a park/the beach.

Do I win a lazyness award?

BadgersRetreat · 01/06/2012 16:36

when i started getting acne at 35 (hormone related) my doc said to be careful what moisturiser i used

the key thing is it should be non comenegenic - means it does not clog your pores up

she said the expensive creams were a waste of money and irritated a lot of skin types

i use Nutregena Moisture - has SPF in it too

Birdsgottafly · 01/06/2012 16:53

You don't need anti-aging at 25, unless your lifestyle dictates that you do. Basic high street brands will suffice.

Some are now usually called anti-stress, because stress, smoking, working nights etc does have an effect on the skin, which then the appearance can be improved by using appropriate products.

If you have dry skin then moisuturise, but your cleanser is as important. You do not have to spend a lot at your age, though. A level of Sun screen is in most products.

When you hit around 35, then re-visit anti-ageing, if you want to.

Tuppence2 · 01/06/2012 17:02

I'm 25 too and all I use is Boots vitamin E lotion. Both the day and night cream. And drink loads of water.
I mustn't look too bad, I got I'd'd for cigarettes the other day!

Spamspamspam · 01/06/2012 17:03

90% of aging is caused by sun apparently. Although I do believe a lot is down to genetics I have good skin for 42 and am faring well despite being a smoker, however I have hardly ever sun worshipped.

Re: ageing and the sun: www.dangerousminds.net/comments/best_argument_for_sunscreen_ever

Says it all, really.

somedayma · 02/06/2012 14:39

This is great advice, thanks everyone, v interesting. I think I'll just stick with a high SPF moisturiser for now rather than an actual anti ageing product
