AIBU to allow my 7 year old to do a class talk on NERF

My 7 year old ds has to do a two minute talk on a topic of his choice in class.

He has done this before, once on guinea pigs anthen on ski-ing.

This time he has asked to do it on NERF. He is NERF mad and collects the blasters. Whilst it wouldnt be my choice I have said he can do it on NERF because it is something he loves and will enjoy talking about so hopefully he will do well. I think as long as he has interesting facts and speaks clearly for the required time then the topic is somewhat irrelevant.

AIBU? Should I force him to do it on some intellectual topic which he has no interest in or let him fill his boots?

Do a bit on Nerf safety (not pointing at people's faces etc) just in case some joyless jobs worth deems Nerfs unsuitable Wink

Please come back and tell us how he got on short. Smile

He's fucking 7!!! Get a grip, let him talk about what floats his boat.

I apologise just read last thread, go boy go, brilliant!!

Could you please ask your DS to clarify which is the biggest NERF gun, and how much it costs.

When ever I get my boys, what they tell me is the biggest and the best, there always seems to be a bigger one they want. Confused

I have a lot of NERF questions. This is a very wide topic. How long does he have?

may not be a popular mum at the school gates, especially when 20 odd kids come out asking for a nerf gun :)

but yanbu i think most children would enjoy the talk

I thnk he should...speaking in public is a learned skill...and pleasure...children as young as 7 need to be allowed to speak about their passions. My DD is also 7 and was allowed to design a greek monster for their Myths and Legends thing and it was based on a Moshi bloody monster. Hmm But her teacher said it was important to let them do this kind of thing.

In Years 3 and 4 my two had to do these talks but were given the topics. They included Madrid, a famous person, and an author. It was like pulling teeth. if they could have chosen the topic it would have been fairly painless.

It's hard talking about something you're not interested in, whereas it's easy to talk about something which you are passionate about.

YANBU.
