To think that my neighbour could have apologised for his dog shitting on our lawn

Says it all really. I just witnessed a neighbour's large dog do a huge shit in the middle of our front lawn. He did come over to pick it up, but I suspect that was only because I had seen his dog do it. I commented that it wasn't really acceptable to let his dog wander all over our lawn. He replied, "what's your problem - I'm clearing it up aren't I?" He never has the dog on a lead, and I said that if he allows his dog to wander all over people's gardens then it ought to be on a lead. His response was that he didn't think it needed to be on a lead. I didn't agree Angry

I think common courtesy really would be that you don't let your dog walk all over neighbours' gardens, you keep it on a lead until you get to the nearby dog walking field, and if it does have an accident then you pick it up and if you are seen by the home owner then a quick "sorry" doesn't hurt, does it?

Btw it isn't just our lawn he lets his dog shit on - there's at least two other front gardens the dog gets directed onto.

At least dog owners tend to clean up after their pets. Its the cats that drive me crackers. Next doors cat shits all over our front and back garden and it is left to use to clean. I spray the cat repellent thing but it is not very effective.

I choose not to have a pet and hate to have to clean up after someone elses!!

Can't you send the kids over to poo on his lawn? I hate the thought of walking barefoot over grass covered in poo debris.

Callisto · 29/05/2012 14:09

YANBU to expect him to be slightly more sheepish about his dog crapping on your lawn. He sounds like a bit of an arse tbh.

Dotty - totally agree. Can't you chuck the cat shit back into next doors garden?

Every so often you come across quite odd dog owners (to make the rest of them look bad etc). Take this morning...I was walking down a busy high street and this chap had a big dog off the lead, very much doing its own thing...and every time the dog wandered in to a shop (it tried superdrug, clinton's cards, peacocks, barnado's), on to the busy road, or on to a stopped bus (yes! On to a bus!!) the owner would beat the dog up Hmm and yet, he was carrying the dog's lead?! Just put the lead on and stop punching yer dog!!

OP all it would have taken was a little Sorry from the dog owner!

Callisto- My DH does lash it over the wall sometimes!! Things are bad when you resort to being a shit slinger Smile

NoraHelmer · 29/05/2012 14:16

He is a bit of an arse Callisto, like most of the people on our road (which is why we want to move house). Most of the people round here are bad-tempered pensioners who just don't give a shit (but their dogs do, unfortunately :o)

Cat shit is something DH gets really Angry about. He does the gardening, and always wears gloves now.

cat shite has stopped me planting any veg this year, i was put off all the bulbs that thne had cat shite over them, i have spent X on cat repellants.

they sleep in my DD play house, cry outside at night, fight with other cats by windows.

why is it OK for cats to shite everywhere yet dog owners - quite rightly have constant messages thrown at us - to clean up our dogs do do , and most of us do?

disgusting OP, would be furios, when we got our little dog that eats DRY food, i was parnoid about her running next door and crapping, i didnt let it happen and fence is fixed now.

It's really annoying, we have a shared garden and one of my neighbours has a dog that she will just let shit anywhere and only cleans it up if people are around watching.
Then she leaves the bag on the doorstep for ages.. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to check the garden before my DC's play out or move dogshit for her because she's out & the kids want to play in the garden.
Thank God we're moving soon, private garden with a big gate here we come!

I stood at the window last year and watched a guy let his dog roam into my garden and look like it was about to take a dump! I went out in a bit of a strop and, like you OP, said I didn't really want his dog in our garden, whether he was going to pick it up or not! I pointed out that my own dogs have a run in a separate area in our garden for precisely this reason. He muttered at me and walked off, leaving me fuming.

I am a vet and now have my own practice in the town. Guess who came in with his dogs last month Blush Blush.....

welliesandpyjamas · 29/05/2012 14:31

Did he recognise you, jooly?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 29/05/2012 21:03

I'm sure he did!! Blush Bit awkward!
