Or is this Book Utterly Inappropriate for a Reception Child

Every Friday DS has a library session at school where he can choose a book from the library home from school. This term they are encouraging them to choose a non-fiction book instead of storybooks.

Last week DS (in Yr R) brought home a book called "Sick". Its about the histpry of medical science and the first few pages were fascinating. Not so impressed when last nights pages talked about sperm and even more Shock when tonights pages covered HIV, gonorrhea & syphilis.

I consider myself a fairly open minded mum. DS is quite bright and needs to know everything about everything. He also tracks as I'm reading so I can't get anything past him Hmm

Would you say that this book is inappropriate for a year R child or AIBU??

Should I mention it to the teacher in case they didn't realise the content of the book??

To be honest with 30 children to a class the class teacher probably didn't even see the book he chose. I wouldn't worry about it and would just tell your DS that it's an adult book he chose by accident. Mention it to the teacher and they will know to look at what he's choosing next time. I used to try to keep an eye on what the children were choosing but I know I probably missed some kids sometimes.

Thanks.

I don't want to start a war over this just point out that it might not be suitable for the younger year groups.

I would bring it to their attention as it is prob in the wrong area in school library.

Too young yes i agree but it's also the sort of book my DS would have a hoot over!
