to park on the road outside my OWN driveway ??

I guess our neighbours which have constant visitors that park outside our drive, (we have side by side drives) think we shouldn't by the rude hand gestures we had yesterday.

My dh decided he was fed up with being blocked in yet again that he parked his car on the road.

So are we being unfair to park outside our drive when they are 2 free parking spaces next too our drive they could use.

YANBU if the road is OK to park on legally you can do what you want.

TeriHatchetJob · 28/05/2012 13:58

no

ChaoticismyLife · 28/05/2012 14:03

They are BU to block you in.

PineappleBed · 28/05/2012 14:07

YANBU our neighbours across the road used to park their cars right in front of our house so we couldn't get out of our drive so now we park there. They haven't commented or continued to try to park there so I guess they're feeling sheepish.

Your neighbours are very rude and unreasonable!

naturalbaby · 28/05/2012 14:10

What happens when you knock on the door and ask them to move the cars blocking you in?

VivaLeBeaver · 28/05/2012 14:11

Are they actually parking across the bottom of your drive thereby totally blocking you in? If so YANBU.

witch000 · 28/05/2012 14:15

thank you :)

Yes the road is fine to park on doesn't obstruct anyone :)

Nbu at all. They have no more right than you do to park there. If they block you in, you can get them ticketed. You can't do anything of they park across your driveway preventing you from getting in, but if they prevent you getting out you can.

I occasionally get pissed off with people parking outside our house (now I know I am being unreasonable but it doesn't stop me and I don't do or say anything about it!). I don't know why they do it as we're not that close to their house and there are spaces closer. In my rantings days, I have been
Known to not use our driveway and park on the road so I do t have to look at their shitty car!

witch000 · 28/05/2012 14:17

Yes they are actually blocking in one of our cars.
And when we knock on the door they usually give us a filthy look, and sent out the person who's car it is.

Well, that's their problem. They are not being neighbourly by encouraging their friends to block your communal driveway.

We have the same issue in our flats - one set of neighbours think a piece of land is for them and then only - low behold anyone else park on it (perfectly acceptable as it's first come first served) and they avhe the two cars wanting to park in 'their' area and they then all their friends too.

No answers - just empathy. The law is, of course, on your side, just the major hassle of entitled morons.

witch000 · 28/05/2012 20:16

thank you :)

I don't know who they think they are !!!

IIRC you are committing an offence if you block someone's car on a drive so you can actually call the police.

If you just can't get on to your drive, then there's nothing you can do.

YANBU though

klaxon · 28/05/2012 20:32

Side by side driveways are a nightmare OP. I feel your pain. Used to have one and no fucker knew WHERE to park so they just parked in stupid places assuming well they are next door they can always ask me to move Hmm

GnomeDePlume · 28/05/2012 20:34

If there is a dropped kerb then IIRC they are breaking some sort of law by blocking you in.

Purple2012 · 28/05/2012 20:37

It is against the law to block you in and you can call the police as it is classed as obstruction. However, if you can't get in to your drive the police wouldnt deal as that isnt classed as obstruction.

misslinnet · 28/05/2012 21:01

YANBU to park outside your drive, so long as you're not stopping anyone else from using their drive.

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 28/05/2012 21:04

they swore at you? wow they sound charming Grin

Anniegetyourgun · 28/05/2012 21:10

Both XH and my sister complained about neighbours parking in front of my house so they couldn't. I explained to my sister that it isn't a problem for me as they weren't blocking me or preventing me from parking where I wanted to, and it would not be reasonable for them to leave a space nearly all the time just in case I had a visitor - a point she accepted. My response to XH was rather briefer.

witch000 · 28/05/2012 21:21

Nope not stopping anyone else from using their drive ,we are on the end and there is space for 2 cars next to our driveway that no ones parks in.

And yes there is a dropped kerb which we extended.

Thanks everyone :)

yanbu- you have crap neighbours. they and their guests deserve it!

we live in a corner, with 2 spaces each and a single shared driveway with our neighbours. we never have a problem because we each manage visitors. we tell our own visitors not to block in,and go out and check when they arrive.

witch000 · 28/05/2012 22:01

That's what i would do if i seen any of our visitors parking across their drive, i would ask them to move.
