To think that one rack of clothes in a big store does not qualify as a maternity 'service'?

MrsHelsBels74 · 27/05/2012 19:22

Before venturing out today I checked Next's website & it specifically said there was a maternity wear 'service' which I took to mean a half decent selection of maternity clothes would be there.

After looking around the store (which is a big one) I asked someone. They showed me where it was but did say it wasn't a big section.

She wasn't joking...there was one rack with one sort of trousers, one pair of jeans & 2 tops...that was it.

AIBU to think this is a bit shit?

I got really good maternity trousers from 'pea in a pod' in America.

Thankgodforcaffeine · 28/05/2012 07:50

H&M have a lovely selection, but I did find that they didn't fit me anymore from about 7mths preg.

This being said, DD was a big baby and my bump was massive :o

BillBrysonsRucksack · 28/05/2012 07:57

Dorothy Perkins have quite a good selection in store (well they do in the one near me anyway!) and their stuff is online too.

I just existed in about 2 pairs of trousers and 3 tops anyway slattern

glenthebattleostrich · 28/05/2012 08:13

I bought most of my maternity wear from H&M and Asos, they were brilliant.

NarcolepsyQueen · 28/05/2012 08:16

H&M and Topshop and ASOS.

OhNoMyFanjo · 28/05/2012 08:16

Some of my fab maternity clothes were from new look, not my normal choice for clothes either.

Yes it's a bag I shite, they don't want fat bellies in the shop* so put it all online

  • this might not be tge real reason
EightiesChick · 28/05/2012 08:21

There is a big M&S near me and they also had a fairly limited section in store, but what annoyed me most was that they got rid of it all between Oct-Xmas to make room for the 'party wear'! I guess people just shouldn't be pregnant during the Christmas season... Agree it is annoying that it is all online. I got on better with New Look and H&M. That said Next were the only place I could get jeans.

misslinnet · 28/05/2012 10:25

I got lots of maternity clothes from New Look. Also Next - guess I got lucky with my local shop as they had quite a big selection considering the size of the shop.

Angry at M&S though - checked their website, it said big shop near me stocked maternity clothes. I went there, and shop assistant said it was only sold online. Very annoyed at rubbish website info.

american78 · 28/05/2012 10:30

I am about to tackle this problem too. Unfortunately I am a size 20 and New Look only goes up to 18. Also short and cropped trousers do nothing for me.
Come to the conclusion dresses and skirts are my only option.

WandaDoff · 28/05/2012 11:02

I got most of my stuff from ebay last time, then sold it again on ebay, when I was finished with it. Grin

JADS · 28/05/2012 11:07

YANBU Next is generally rubbish for everything though. H&M were brilliant. I just bought the same top in 4 different colours and lived in that.

takingiteasy · 28/05/2012 11:09

I ended up in leggings and the same 4 tops anyway but I was lucky and don't need to be that smart for work

chocoroo · 28/05/2012 13:01

I found Topshop were the only place that sold maternity clothes that didn't look like my mother would wear them. Dorothy Perkins had a few things but the material used for their trousers was horrid.

I did get a few things from Asos too. H&M were "between" seasons when I needed the bulk of my maternity stuff and everything was black and grey. Not a nice look imo.

Tunic tops or dresses and leggings were a good option - I just bought a size up.

EssexGurl · 28/05/2012 13:37

I loved New Look when I was pregnant - but would never dream of shopping there now! I found they had a really good selection of stuff.

New Look maternity jeans are the most comfortable I've ever worn, also they look very nice.

I've been out shopping for summer clothes and I actually haven't really got much in the way of maternity stuff. I'm getting away with leggings and summer dresses that come in just under the bust

MrsHelsBels74 · 28/05/2012 17:18

Just ordered a few bits from New Look, as was very disappointed with the bits I ordered from Next which arrived today.

I think the range on offer has got worse since I had dd 4 years ago. There are 4 Next stores within 5 miles of my house, 2 used to stock maternity wear, none do now; and one of the New Looks has stopped too. Out of 2 Debenhams and 3 H&Ms only one H&M stocks maternity clothes (and they have the best selection as others have said). The range in Mothercare is just horrible. The Gap we had nearby closed down, and I don't think they did maternity stuff anyway.

MrsHelsBels74 · 28/05/2012 17:36

I was lucky & got a huge bundle second hand from e-bay but sadly there weren't any summer trousers. I really prefer being able to try things on as I'm only 5ft so normal length trousers swamp me. Fingers crossed for delivery tomorrow!

At least you only need the clothes for 9 months.
Try and find a tall range in a high street store. Smile

yorkshire84 · 28/05/2012 17:52

I think Dp do a tall range.

FatimaLovesBread · 28/05/2012 18:04

Is it the Next in meadowhall? Exact same thing happened to me.
I've got some things from H&M, not a massive range but bigger than the next in store range and not too expensive.
I'm going to order some things from asos and try them too

BikeRunSki · 28/05/2012 18:17

Has anyone mentioned JojoMamanBebe? Their maternity clothes are not particularly fashion forward (although perfectly fine) but well made and well designed for accommodating bumps. Lots of choice too. Also good for work stuff. Not super pricey, not v cheap, good sales and discount to MNers.

Alternatively, if you are a 14/16, all my summer maternity stuff is currently on eBay.

Longtalljosie · 30/05/2012 10:49

Mrsrobertduvall try being tall and pregnant! Although you quite possibly have... Smile

MrsHelsBels74 · 30/05/2012 20:16

No it was Next Holmbush (Shoreham)
