To want Assad and his men to Hang.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then take a look at today's Independent.

Words fail me. There are no words to describe this. The fuckers should hang. The mob should tear them apart. No mercy. None.

If someone handed me a gun today, I would look whoever did this in the eye, and pull the trigger.

That's all I can say.

YANBU. I'll add that swift death by a bullet would be too good for them.

Somehow I doubt much will be done. One, everyone is scared of the 'Islamists' (even though there is a secular opposition in Syria as well), two, no one wants to piss Russia off.

BonnieBumble · 27/05/2012 15:29

YANBU. The footage on YouTube is the most horrific thing I have ever seen.

Is there something we could do as a Mumsnet group? A demonstration of mothers to show our support for the Syrian people.

Northernlurker · 27/05/2012 15:33

I don't approve of state sponsored violence or vengence so yabu BUT yanbu to want those responsible for this to be bought to account. The mob WILL tear them apart if they possibly can - and if it was my child, I think I would do the same.

WelshMoth · 27/05/2012 19:55

Can't get these images out of my mind.

MN tell us what we can do. I'll do it.

I would never support lynching or mob 'justice', regardless of what the person has done.

I do however find this situation, especially the presence of impotent UNMOs, eerily reminiscent of twenty years or so ago in Yugoslavia. There is no peace to keep and, given the enduring questions over and vanishing support for the intervention against a legal though loathsome Government (or absence of Government) such as happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, I think the chances of an invasion to enforce a ceasefire are minimal.

McPhee · 27/05/2012 20:06

Why is the world on self destruct Sad

They were babies, just little babies Sad

I don't understand this world at all.

NameGotLostInCyberspace · 27/05/2012 20:06

YANBU. Enough said.

TwoIfBySea · 27/05/2012 20:07

I clicked on the Youtube link via Twitter and couldn't believe what I saw. I just could not believe it. But I know it is true, I know those children were killed, the sight of that little tot with his hands tied will never leave me and if this doesn't get intervention agreements from Russia and China then what does that say about them?

I've avoided the news in case anything was shown as, while I don't hide the cruelty of humanity from my dts there are some things I'd rather they didn't have to see at age 10.

QuennEdith · 27/05/2012 20:08

There were also at least children blown apart in Afghanistan today.

edam · 27/05/2012 20:11

It's horrifying. And the most horrifying thing about it is that the rest of the world is letting it happen.

Queenedith is right, this is horribly like Bosnia.

And yes, the deaths in Afghanistan are awful too. Two wrongs don't cancel each other out though - you can't ignore Syria because bloody awful things are happening elsewhere.

Showmethemhappyfeet · 27/05/2012 20:16

I have been out all day and not seen any news. List read the article and that photo... It will be a long while before I get that out of my head. Not even going to look for the YouTube video!

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/05/2012 20:19

jesus. i dont watch the news or buy a paper anymore, so i went for a google. This is reprehensible. words fail me.

idontbelieveanymore · 27/05/2012 20:56

YANBU.

I too cannot believe any human could do that to people and babies. But it is nothing new. The rape of Nanking, Bosnia, Aboriginal massacres, the list is endless.

Humans are the cruellest of creatures and I am ashamed to be one sometimes. This is a very sad day. There will never be an end until we have self destructed.

I feel utterly depleted of hope at these pictures.

meditrina · 27/05/2012 21:06

I think it's worth looking at other situations where atrocious killing occurs, for the simple reason that we need to be looking for the best ways to get it stopped. It shouldn't be seen in terms of comparative misery.

I am glad that our Government is active in pressing the UN to take action; I am another who doesn't actually see any good options. UN monitors cannot do much (other than channel information back), and it seems unlikely that a force can be put together to invade - the general public of the big troop contributors are calling for troops home, not more campaigns. And we have learned some pretty hard lessons about the drawbacks of going in quickly, before post-conflict scenarios have been properly planned.

It would be tremendous though if a plausible force, and a plan which really is adequately comprehensive, could be assembled.
