to allow 3 year old DD to be naked on the beach?

We were on a beach in the SW yesterday and it was, of course, a scorcher! DD wanted to run around naked and I said ok. After a while I noticed she was the only naked person on the beach. All the other children had swimsuits on etc.

Was IBU to allow her to be naked? Is this something that's frowned upon these days? I did notice on man (a dad) looking a bit confused, but that could have just been his natural expression! :)

YANBU. Gah, agh, I just hate all this angst around kids running in the nude. Until THEY don't want to anymore (and that is usually the beginnings of some kind of sexual awareness, or at least the beginnings of self-consciousness) who gives a damn? As long as they are protected from the sun of course. They are children fgs.

I am protecting my DCs! I am not changing our lives because there happen to be some sad, inadequate people around.

I would never let my children do it either. I am also aware through my own personal experiences that there are plenty of people that would be having perverse thoughts and YES children should be entitled to play naked on a hot day at the beach but I do not want to play into the hands of some nasty pervert.
Where is the harm in them wearing a swim costume or underwear?

I know what some of you are saying, a child shouldn't have to alter their behaviour because of others, and that is true. But still I wouldn't want my children exposed that way and it makes me uncomfortable in public places because you do quite often get views that are a little too graphic.

But we must all make those decisions for themselves and I do not think there is a right or wrong answer.

As others have said, if there's a paedophile (sorry, I cringe at the tabloid-esque "paedo"!) about, which of course is highly unlikely, and if they did 'enjoy' the sight of naked DD, what actual harm would come to her? She never strays far away from me for anyone to take her away and so there is absolutely minimal risk - naked or not. I don't see that not wearing knickers changes that situation. Nobody was obviously watching her, and if they were it'd probably be completely innocent. I'm sure I'd watch a little three year old running around with a Noddy bucket and spade, because I like seeing little ones having fun. Paedophile I am not!

I'm so glad of the replies because I feel now that I wasn't unreasonable. I just worried that I was in the minority and was offending people on the beach.

Even if a paedophile were to take photographs I don't see how it affects you-or the DC- they can just as easily take one in a swim suit-they can do anything with a photo these days.The camera does lie. Unless they are going to hide under a burka they are not immune!

I used to let dts run around in the buff when they were younger, but I'd usually have a t-shirt on them for most of the time when they were in the water as sun cream might not have been so effective.

But yes, I would imagine there would be lots of cat bum faces from the type of people who should really mind their own business!

At child is more vulnerable to a pedophile within their home environment than on a beach. People massively misplace the risk of abuse.

what about sand getting inside her and making her uncomfortable, pain in the butt to get cleaned out too probably from certain areas....but i see nothing wrong with kids being naked....let them be free.....i believe kids should have freedom....and plus if she needed to pee in the water she would not have pee on suit bottoms....i know kids tend to go pee in oceans or pools....naked you do not have to worry about pee in the bottoms

I personally hate to see naked kids. But I don’t have kids and I’m awkward about nudity. The whole thing just makes me feel really uncomfortable. I don’t want to see genitals full stop, I don’t care that it’s a child they belong to!
