after watching the news and seeing how bad that country is with human rights, and watching a woman protester being man handled, how could anone watch it?

OP posts:
kittyandthefontanelles · 26/05/2012 22:48

I'm not watching it

2shoes · 26/05/2012 22:56

ahh but is that cos it is crap, or because of the human rights issues?

I'm a long time supporter of Amnesty International and don't have a telly so take your pick.

2shoes · 26/05/2012 23:05

I applaud you, this is my forst boycott, so I Am a bit of a newbie

OP posts:
kittyandthefontanelles · 26/05/2012 23:06

And by supporter I mean both actively and financially

kittyandthefontanelles · 26/05/2012 23:08

Welcome. Enjoy (so to speak)

bronze · 26/05/2012 23:10

I'm not watching for all reasons. Kind of hard to boycott something that you do t watch because it's shit though

LST · 26/05/2012 23:36

What would you say to someone that has watched it then OP?

maddening · 26/05/2012 23:42

what is it?

LST · 26/05/2012 23:47

Eurovision song contest.

2shoes · 26/05/2012 23:50

wouldn't say anything, just assume they hav't watched the news this week.
I don't normally get all up in arms, but it did shock me, I think I just always thought that the ESC was a bit of a joke, seeing people suffer in the host country, made me re think thats all really

OP posts:
LST · 26/05/2012 23:54

I watched it to support our country. Do you really think people not watching a show will change anything? I'm disgusted with what's happened but they still got more points than Uk Sad

It was shut though. Glad uk didn't win really. Would be just another unnecessary cost on the tax payer.

2shoes · 26/05/2012 23:55

too true

OP posts:
LST · 26/05/2012 23:56

I obviously meant shit not shut Angry

SimplySoo · 26/05/2012 23:58

But 2shoes, what will you not watching achieve? By all means campaign, write to MP, tweet, bring publicity to the plight of people of the country - but one person in the UK not watching BBC 1 for the night won't do a thing.

5Foot5 · 27/05/2012 01:09

But has it not occurred to you that if the ESC had not been held in Azerbaijan many of these issue would not even have been highlighted to the rest of Europe. Having the contest there has briefly shone a spotlight on a country we would normally ignore. So isn't that a good thing?

kittyandthefontanelles · 27/05/2012 02:40

I think the OP was suggesting that it wasn't just one person in the UK. That's how a boycott works, lots of people boycott something at once. It can be very effective. I dislike the notion of "so what difference can one person can make?"....well let's none of us bother then. I'll tell Ghandi and Nelson we are packing it all in.

kittyandthefontanelles · 27/05/2012 02:42

LST- I went to Azerbaijan in my lunch hour but it was shut then too.

ilovesooty · 27/05/2012 03:29

The Eurovision winner met with the human rights activists in the country - the only artist who did.

2shoes · 27/05/2012 09:23

I doubt me not watching it made one jot of a difference.
good point about it highlighting the bad stuff that goes on there, hadn't thought of it that way.

OP posts:
Hownoobrooncoo · 27/05/2012 10:04

But people not watching could just be put down to people thinking the whole thing is shit rather than it being a political standpoint. It's a total joke anyway and a huge waste of time and money - for the UK anyway. Hump's entry was crap but even if we put in a great act we would still get mostly nil points, so why do we bother.
