I clearly am bvu but I can't help but be annoyed by this status update and the like: "Being a mummy is the best feeling in the WHOLE wide world :) xxx."

I am clearly an awful human being but it just sets me totally on edge. Yes being a mum has moments of total euphoria but no one's convincing me it's a bed of roses 100% of the time. Or it could be the calling yourself 'mummy' and talking in baby language. I dunno, just pisses me off. I'm awful aren't I?

I don't have an issue with it. I agree with their sentiment even though we have had a lot of ups and downs

Fireandashes · 26/05/2012 18:51

Could have been worse, they could have said "bestest feeling".

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 26/05/2012 18:51

Yes - you are being awful. She's incredibly happy to be a Mum, why do you feel so much like pissing on her parade?

It's not something I would write on FB for two reasons, it's not the sort of thing I'd write and I don't do Facebook, maybe you should try it, it's a lot less stressful :)

alphabite · 26/05/2012 18:51

I see statuses like this all the time from my friends. Very hard for those of us who can't have children.

BlackOutTheSun · 26/05/2012 18:52

Yep you are awful, but I agree Grin

What annoys me is when I get asked 'how's mum?'. My mum is fine thanks...

motherinferior · 26/05/2012 18:53

Oh god no, it is cringeworthy. And also quite often wrong.

squeakytoy · 26/05/2012 18:54

I agree Alphabite, it does come across as gloating as well.

usualsuspect · 26/05/2012 18:54

How dare she love her children and write what she likes on her very own FB

Tizzylizzy · 26/05/2012 18:54

I think it's the public declaration thing I'm uncomfortable with. Maybe.

OP posts:
SunshineOutdoors · 26/05/2012 18:55

I think I must bu too

FallenCaryatid · 26/05/2012 18:57

I agree it is the bestest most wuffly fing wot I have ever done in my whole entire life. True.

I do not see the need to dribble about it in public, neither do those I regard as friends. But for those that do, what harm are they creating?
None. Their ikkle heads may be full of candyfloss instead of mundane reality, but they are harmless and that's OK by me.

BlueBirdsNest · 26/05/2012 18:57

let it go. ........she isn't ask you to 'like' her status (I assume this is a facebook thing)

jazzchickens · 26/05/2012 18:57

I don't do FB but I thought a status update was a public declaration?

WheatBelly · 26/05/2012 18:57

YANBU another one is "I love my boys". Good on yer, I think, you love your children - go tell THEM not me!

SarkyWench · 26/05/2012 18:59

IME people who say stuff like this are often having a brief good period in the middle of an otherwise rather shitty life.

FallenCaryatid · 26/05/2012 18:59

I do have a friend who posts crap like this about dogs though...she's a lovely person but really. Dogs. Grin

ShellyBoobs · 26/05/2012 19:01

Facebook: work of the devil.

The sooner the whole thing comes crashing down the better.

BlueBirdsNest · 26/05/2012 19:01

I don't have a facebook but will ask why you are all judgmental over a 'friend' posting what she wants to post?

WenTheEternallySurprised · 26/05/2012 19:03

"Being a mummy is the best feeling in the WHOLE wide world :) xxx"

To which the correct response is - "To you, maybe" Grin

YANBU, it's the language, not the sentiment which really grates on me. I just think "airhead", if I'm honest. For a start, you're a mother, dearie, not a mummy. A mummy is a dead thing which has been wrapped in bandages.

Tizzylizzy · 26/05/2012 19:04

Maybe deep down (ok maybe not that deep down) I wish I could be that fluffy and full of the joys of life?

OP posts:
cornflowers · 26/05/2012 19:07

The mummy updates, to be fair, are no worse than the 'Feeling really happy today to have the most wonderful husband in the world!! ' or 'These are the lovely flowers my gorgeous husband gave to me today!' accompanied by a pic of the bouquet wilting away in its wrappings...
Gushing public declarations of love for significant others etc just make me cringe. To each their own, though, it's harmless :)

Tizzylizzy · 26/05/2012 19:08

Cornflowers I totally agree. The pics of bouquets - yuck!

OP posts:
Sparks1 · 26/05/2012 19:09

It's the language for me.

Was in a restaurant at lunchtime and a grown woman of at least 35 turned to her mother and referred to her as " Mamma".

Sorry but in my book that's just wrong.

theincredibequeenofwands · 26/05/2012 19:10

Yes, it's cringy!

My friend's post a lot of 'like this if you love your son'.

No, fuck off!!

Safmellow · 26/05/2012 19:10

YABU and I know exactly what you mean (I am U too!)
