Name changed so I don't out my location.

Local newspaper property pages, Fine & Country, who I thought couldn't get any worse with their vomit-inducing gush.

Full page ad, pic of a shared occupancy mansion, a couple of lines about the apartment on offer (£425k), one line giving details of the location - Loudwater, Herts, and then:

"In 2001 the population was 1,242 with in 2002 nearly a quarter being millionaires, the highest concentration of any community in the United Kingdom."

Pass the sick bag someone.

Ooo I always thought it was Southport that had the most millionaires.

TidyDancer · 25/05/2012 20:37

That's in the Chorleywood area, isn't it?

That's supposed to be the happiest place in the UK....think we've found out why! Grin

But no, YANBU.

tartyflette · 25/05/2012 20:39

I thought it was
a/St George's Hill/Weybridge Surrey

or
b/East Bergholt, Essex

or
C/Alderley Edge

TidyDancer · 25/05/2012 20:42

It's not saying Loudwater has the most millionaires per se, it's saying it's the highest concentration.

I heard Woldingham has the most millionaires per capita. Highest concentration is different though i suppose.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 25/05/2012 21:07

When I was at University a very very long time ago, I understood it to be Englefield Green in Surrey (not far from Ascot, Wentworth etc).

But, ffs, its obvious now. Only Belgravia or Knightsbridge or possibly Holland Park can be home to the most millionaires per square mile.

Obviously there is no where else in the country that can compete?

kickassangel · 25/05/2012 21:07

What is worse, is that to some people it matters

squeakytoy · 25/05/2012 21:10

Due to property price rises, there are an awful lot more millionaires now anyway, it isnt that unusual, or even that impressive.

fortifiedwithtea · 25/05/2012 21:12

Good of the estate agent to tell burglars its a good area Grin.

Lizcat · 25/05/2012 21:14

We have one tiny village here where being a puny millionaire doesn't cut it. The village has under 10 houses with the cheapest being at over 4 million. We are lead to believe that it the area with the highest average house price in the UK.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 25/05/2012 21:17

But how can it be Lizcat? Have you looked at property price in, say, SW1X?

Dawndonna · 25/05/2012 22:00

I wouldn't buy from Fine and Country on principle. My principle being I couldn't buy from a company that writes such godawful, badly rhyming, grammatically incorrect shite.

Lizcat · 26/05/2012 09:29

Bibbity probably as the biggest property in the village I couldn't even imagine it's value as it last sold in the 1980s, but if I was to hazard a guess it would be hundreds of millions. But believe these figures are looking at an individual place where as SW1X is a district of London where as this is a separate village really my point was that it is possible by massaging your stats and using small sample size to prove any point you like.

CrumpettyTree · 26/05/2012 09:46

Had a look at SW1X and this horrible ex council flat in need of some modernisation is going for half a million! Shock

Softlysoftly · 26/05/2012 10:23

Omg crumpetty who the hell would buy that?! Just live outside the area somewhere nice and commute.

thegreylady · 26/05/2012 10:47

My d-i-l's parents live in Loudwater-people may be rich but there is not much sense of community there.
