to think bfp is wrong

11 weeks pg. ( apparently) and absoloutely no symptoms. Nothing. No tiredness, no sickiness, glass of wine of a Friday night is slipping down a treat.
All 3 previous pgs I've been sick as a dog from day one, coffee and wine made me heave, in bed at 8pm.
Surely 6 tests can't be wrong?
Got a scan in a week but I think they're going to give me a pitying " 42 year old having a phantom pg" look.
Can I really have got away with not feeling rough?!

I've had 4 pregnancies and numbers 1 and 3 were completely symptom free.

AutumnSummers · 25/05/2012 11:59

What did they actually say at scan?

Lambzig · 25/05/2012 12:19

I have been told by many many fertility specialists that you cant get a false positive (unless you are on some fertility drugs) on a pregnancy test, so 6 positives is looking pretty certain.

SofaKing · 25/05/2012 12:28

I've also heard you can't get a false positive, except if fertility drugs skew your hormone levels.
Are your three children all the same sex? Many people say they have different pgs with different sexes ( this is why I was convinced ds2 was a girl at first, as I was very sick the same way I was with dd).

Good luck with your scan, my symptoms with ds1 vanished the week before my scan and I was sure something bad had happened, it took 5 minutes of staring at him spinning round at the scan before I was convinced he was real!

Lambzig · 25/05/2012 12:37

yes, forgot to say good luck. If you are really stressing your GP can refer you for an early scan as well.

IgnoringTheChildren · 25/05/2012 12:48

Lots of women have symptom-free pregnancies Envy From experience it's more of a concern if you have symptoms that then vanish fairly quickly (although this happens in completely normal pregnancies too).

You don't say which pregnancy tests you've tried - you might find it reassuring to use one of the digital ones that tell you how many weeks you are. can't believe I'm recommending that as on the whole I think they're a big con!

Hope all goes well! Smile

thegreylady · 25/05/2012 12:55

Be happy! Congratulations :-)

Kayano · 25/05/2012 12:56

I didn't have ANY sickness at all.

I sort of felt cheated from my pregnancy experience lol

SCOTCHandWRY · 25/05/2012 13:02

You can't get false positives if you used the tests correctly and read the result within the time limit. Sadly, people who get positive and then get weaker positives or a negative have had a brief, but non-viable early loss Sad. I have experienced this a number of times myself, and some later losses where I had symptoms but these waned after a few weeks.

The exception being certain medications, and certain rare medical conditions.

You are 42, and if you feel you want to take advantage of early tests such as nuchal thickness and/or CVS, you should be asking for an early referral - we older mums do need a bit of extra care as the risks are greater. I was almost 43 when DS4 was born, and I did feel I was given the "royal" treatment on grounds of being so very mature!

CadleCrap · 25/05/2012 13:05

Have you had AF? If not then guessing it is a BFP.

Congratulations!

aliceinboots · 25/05/2012 13:19

You can't imagine or trick your body into producing the pregnancy hormone in urine which home tests rely on for results.
You're pregnant.
For what it's worth, I sailed through the first trimester with my first DD.

Also felt like you, that the scan would show nothing but a bit of wind. Nope, there was a baby in there.

moogster1a · 25/05/2012 14:02

Got the nuchal at the same time as 12 week scan next wee. I know logically you can't get false positive, I've just got this paranoid feeling I'm going to make a tit of myself by there being nothing there.
if I'd had an early mc I assume AF would have arrived by now?

OP posts:
MeKathryn · 25/05/2012 14:10

Congratulations!

I had a missed mc which means you don't get bleeding. I also had pg symptoms, strong positive tests and all the hormones as the pregnancy sac can grow even when the baby dies :(

Most likely you are healthily pregnant with no symptoms :) Good luck for the scan.

Buckingfiatch · 25/05/2012 14:12

There are medications and medical conditions which can cause false positives. Unless you have reason to believe that these could of caused a false positive with you, you will more than likely definitely be pregnant.

Many sail through pregnancies without any problems/symptoms. Also, every pregnancy is different and a woman can have completely different experiences.

Do not worry, and look forward to seeing your baby next week :o

Good luck.

diddl · 25/05/2012 14:14

Sounds as if congrats are in order!

I´ve only had two pregnancies-but both trouble free-as were my Mum´s & sisters.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 25/05/2012 14:17

I had no symptoms either until the second trimester when I got tired. I got a bit paranoid then tried to enjoy it!

Greatdomestic · 25/05/2012 15:02

Enjoy it.

I had no sickness, tiredness etc at all.

Good luck. :)
