For Christmas my mum bought dd a dress for £30 that she wore 3 times as it wasn't one that could be worn everywhere. I have just spent £33 on a dress and cardigan from next www.next.co.uk/g373474s3 that she will get tons of wear from this year and next only for my mum to have a go at me for wasting money and being stupid Hmm when I pointed out how much the Christmas dress cost she announced that different as if it was the end of the subject.

Am I mad? Is there a difference?

No difference and none of your mum's business. Unless of course you moan about being skint.

TroublesomeEx · 24/05/2012 21:56

Was the dress your mum bought nice?

bronze · 24/05/2012 21:59

There is a difference, you'll probably get more use out of yours and as youre not likely to grow

squeakytoy · 24/05/2012 22:00

Well i suppose it depends on if you are broke and cant really afford to be spending £33 on a dress.

LynetteScavo · 24/05/2012 22:01

It's non of your mums business.

i'm guessing she doesn't like your choice of dress.

Again, none of her business.

which dress is it? if it is the union jack one, then your mother has a point...

Trills · 24/05/2012 22:06

Please don't say you bought the "Union Jack Prom Dress"! Shock

YAB a bit U to "not understand the difference" - there is a difference between buying something as a special present at Christmas and as an everyday purchase.

But really it is none of her business how much you spend on children's clothes.

Dprince · 24/05/2012 22:07

Its non of her business unless you are Amway moaning about not having money, have asked to borrow money, owe her (or one of her relatives) money or are getting yourself into debt.

Dprince · 24/05/2012 22:09

Damn phone that's meant to say always moaning.

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2012 22:09
Blush

Mind you, every kid in the street will have one I expect.

stargazer83 · 24/05/2012 22:09

I know Moo unfortunately I let dd pick on the bright side at least it's not pink :o

The dress mum bought was gorgeous but unless she's asked to be bridesmaid in the next couple of months and the colour scheme is burgundy it will go to waste. It wasn't money I didn't have nor do I complain about being skint so I can't see her point

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 24/05/2012 22:09

none (sorry Blush )

stargazer83 · 24/05/2012 22:11

Missed some posts, yes it's the delightful union jack dress with a lovely red cardi to hide compliment it

TroublesomeEx · 24/05/2012 22:12

There might be a lesson in there somewhere then stargazer. They are pretty nasty dresses. I think my DD would also want them - so she will never set eyes on them!

But no, if you don't moan about being skint then can't really see how it's any of your mum's business.

Mums are funny creatures at times!

TroublesomeEx · 24/05/2012 22:13

She'll be the talk of the town at the school jubilee celebrations though, won't she Grin

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 24/05/2012 22:15

I also like the union flag dress Blush
I agree that there is a difference between a Christmas present, and everyday purchase.
However, it is none of your Mums business what you buy!

stargazer83 · 24/05/2012 22:19

I think my mum was put out that I refused to buy this to be teamed with a lovely union jack t shirt tights and even sequined union jack boots. Saying that right now I'm not sure which is worse

I bought that for dsd for a christening last week. Ds and Dd already had clothes in red white and blue and this dress blended well. She looked lovely.

It's none of your mums business Yanbu

bronze · 24/05/2012 22:23

Realises she had it wrong I thought the dress was for you Blush

pumpkinsweetie · 24/05/2012 22:27

Its none of her business what you choose to buy your dd, unless of course if you were in financial hardship.
Quite like the union jack dress, glad to have stumbled upon it thanx to your thread , might buy it for my 6yo dd but the stripy bow dress is hideous and looks cheap
