WIBU to go to a concert alone?

crashdoll · 23/05/2012 18:30

There's a concert I really want to go to and I've found one ticket on ebay. It's expensive and no one else wants to go anyway. WIBU to go alone? It's at the London O2 arena and it's a fairly long journey for me. My friends think I'm sad a bit silly but I'm not sure. I'm 50:50. So, I put it to you, good people of MN.

I would go, I've gone to concerts on my own before.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/05/2012 19:23

go go go, You will be surrounded by fans so lots in common, there may even be another MNetter there so wear 'the MN scarf' or ask on here if anyone else going to PM you and meet up.
I went to see swan lake (male only version) when DS1 was very young on my own, twas the first time I ever left him and knew I had just about time to go, see it, and get home in time for next BF. I felt very 'grown up' stupid really as I was 29 married with a kid, but had never really done stuff I wanted on my own, always went with the crowd. Its a good feeling.

qazxc · 23/05/2012 19:23

go. i go to concerts, gigs, festivals on my own, always have done. I find a lot easier as you do not have to plan trips to loo, bar, meeting point and just enjoy yourself. you can also indulge in full on dancing without fear of making a tit of yourself as you don't know anyone.

squeakytoy · 23/05/2012 19:27

Go! I go to loads of gigs on my own, seated or standing, you always end up chatting with other people in the queue and in the gig, and there are always plenty of people there on their own too. You will be fine. You are going there to watch the band, not be sociable.. lol!

Trestle · 23/05/2012 20:03

YANBU. You don't need to justify yourself to anyone and you're a complete enough person to do this by yourself!

PoppyWearer · 23/05/2012 20:13

YANBU.

I went alone to a concert once when I was away with work, and it was hugely empowering. Had a wonderful time!

mirry2 · 23/05/2012 20:17

I've been to the cinema on my own because my dh doesn't like soppy films and I do.

wigglesrock · 23/05/2012 20:19

Go, I've done it and I love going to the cinema on my own.

gagafan · 23/05/2012 20:44

Yes, I would agree it is empowering. Went to see a ha on my own for there final gig in uk. I had been a fan since the early days. No one else understood my mega crush on Morten. So, just stood about 10 foot away (was seated) and swooned for 2 hours. Go for it.

steffibabes · 23/05/2012 21:05

You have inspired me to book a ticket to go and see the touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Been umming and ahhing for a week or so :)

YohoAhoy · 23/05/2012 21:08

Well I have 2 tickets for a gig in September, with not a clue if anyone else will want to come.

I will definitely go on my own of no one else is sad enough.

Mine are seated tickets too.

I's work on the principle that you will automatically have something in common with everyone else there, so I think it should be pretty friendly.

Enjoy :)

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 23/05/2012 21:43

YABU for pretending the ticket is very expensive when it's westlife Wink
No seriously though you should go, those things are always so loud it's not like you could talk to the person you were with anyway

{i'm aware that last sentence made me sound about 60 when i'm actually only 23 Blush

angel1976 · 23/05/2012 21:49

I've got one ticket to Hackney weekend and I am going all alone.

Booette · 23/05/2012 22:04

Yes, go! I went to a gig alone the other week. I did actually get 2 tickets but none of my (small group) of friends were available. I loved it! I could scream and sing loudly without embarrassing myself, and even hung around after to meet the band, which I wouldn't have done if I'd been with a friend and in a hurry to get home.

knowotumean · 23/05/2012 22:06

Go! I think it'll be a great experience

crashdoll · 24/05/2012 13:32

I've bought the ticket and I am certainly not telling any of you how much I paid for it nor how many times over face value I paid. All I will tell you is that it is a damn good seat and it's a good life skill to use your credit card as much as possible.

steffibabes So glad I inspired you to to book a ticket for JCS! I'm going with my sister, we are both big Tim Minchin and musical fans!

Not unreasonable at all. I usually go to movies alone because my wife hates science fiction. Fortunately our music tastes are pretty similar.

Noqontrol · 24/05/2012 16:52

Excellent, have a brilliant time Grin

2shoes · 24/05/2012 17:08

westlife, yes I would go alone(not that I would go to Westlife) I went to see my fave metal band alone(ok ds was in the standing bit) it was ok, but I did miss having someone to talk to

Winkcat · 24/05/2012 22:11

Mrsrobertduvall,

Indeed we shall Smile
There seemed to be loads on ladies on their own when I went to see LC... we could all go together!
