because there has been a fire alarm in the office and the car park is the mustering point, you don't try to barge on regardless to get to your parking space like bloody Moses parting the red sea?

??

Hmm

OldGreyWiffleTest · 22/05/2012 15:29

So where are you supposed to go, then? Home?

Psammead · 22/05/2012 15:29

Depends if you're a fireman or not Grin

But no, it sounds stupid.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 22/05/2012 15:33

Well, if they are driving to work presumably they need to park their car....surely the people would get out the way anyway, they are pretty dumb if they dont! Maybe the gathering place being the car park aint sucgh a good idea but if thats the only option then...............GET OUTTA THE WAY :)

pictish · 22/05/2012 15:34

Yabu - what are they supposed to do?

flypast · 22/05/2012 15:35

i would have just stopped and got out until the people cleared, does sound a stupid thing to do! maybe someone whould write a policy for it Wink

MaidenDevon · 22/05/2012 15:38

Maybe they thought they were the millionth customer and it was a welcoming committee?

OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 15:38

park somewhere else! It's a bloody big car park. It's not the end of the world having to park in a different bit without lots of people in it.

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 15:42

Surely you don't ever drive into the middle of a big crowd of people ? Unless you're an emergency vehicle. Or a complete twat.

OP posts:
DukeHumfrey · 22/05/2012 15:42

Depends if you have allocated parking because there'd be bound to be some idiot who berated you for not parking in your space.

fruitysummer · 22/05/2012 15:43

I think it's the mustering point that needs to change. It's supposed to be a safe area to congregate, which it clearly isn't.

And if you have car park wars like lots of offices do, you can't park in anyone elses spot without being glared at, tutted at or taken into the office about your behaviour Grin

fruitysummer · 22/05/2012 15:47

Surely you don't ever drive into the middle of a big crowd of people ? Unless you're an emergency vehicle. Or a complete twat.

But by the same token, surely you don't stand in the way when you know there will be cars driving around?

How was the car driver supposed to know it was a fire drill?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 22/05/2012 15:47

Well then if its a big car park then no of course YANBU! Our office car park is teeny and there is no where else to park....plus our office car park have allocated spaces and if you park in some elses....it's not far off a shooting offence!

CaptainHetty · 22/05/2012 15:49

I should imagine common sense would suggest if the entire staff of an office are stood outside it's probably some sort of drill or evacuation Hmm It's not like they do it every day.

Personally I'd find somewhere else to park or just wait.

Hullygully · 22/05/2012 15:50

Why didn't they just hoot incessantly until everyone moved?

Get0rfMoiLand · 22/05/2012 15:52

I really like the word mustering.

I am going to go into town and muster outside Debenhams later.

And I am going to shout at the mustering teenagers congregating outside River Island.

Hullygully · 22/05/2012 15:53

A mustering gallimaufry

OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 15:53

"I should imagine common sense would suggest if the entire staff of an office are stood outside it's probably some sort of drill or evacuation "

Well exactly. You don't do it for fun.

OP posts:
fruitysummer · 22/05/2012 15:55

ah but common sense would also suggest you'd move out of the way? Smile

A company I worked for shared a building with another company and they were forever holding outside meetings Confused so after that, I wouldn't assume it was a fire drill but I concede that's probably just me

Get0rfMoiLand · 22/05/2012 15:56

But some people are very, very tiresome about their parking habits at work.

There was a fit of rebellion at work when they introduced barriers. It delayed people by a good 10 seconds that did.

And god forbid those new people who park in the favourable spots away from the trees, and people who have WORKED THERE FOR OVER 10 YEARS have to park under the trees and cars get covered in pigeon shit.

Uproar.

OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 15:57

Could change the muster point (tis a good word - makes me think of ferries) but the only suitable outside place is carpark.

OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 15:58

Over 300 people would be one hell of a meeting!

OP posts:
WenTheEternallySurprised · 22/05/2012 15:58

It depends how much you like your colleagues, I suppose. Grin

I can think of quite a few I've worked with in the past who I'd be quite cheerful about bowling over in a car park!

fruitysummer · 22/05/2012 16:03

Over 300 people would be one hell of a meeting!

Fair point on that score Wink

Seriously though - how big is the car park and how far away from the building are you Orm were you blocking the entrance?

OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 16:09

Car park is hoooooge. About 250 spaces. Never totally full. Brand new purpose office block. Yes there are areas set aside for specific companies but he could have just waited until we all went in - especially as he couldn't go in until the Very Important Men with Hi-Vis Jackets and Clipboards had said so. or even parked in visitors parking. I'm sure he'd have been absolved of sin in the circumstances.

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 22/05/2012 16:09

I might have been blocking the entrance with my enormous arse I suppose....
