To wish I lived near a nice walk?

I live in SW LOndon..love it, the bustle, closeness to facilities etc.
But watching the weather forecast this morning, I thought how lovely it would be to live near the coast, where you can walk along a quiet beach, over the cliffs....go and do something in the evening.
I'm thinking West coast of Wales area.
I have to drive somewhere to go for a walk here.
Mnetters who live by the coast..Envy

I live on the coast, with a cliff top walk on my doorstep. I hardly ever go along it :( I should really, you have made me think about how lucky I am.

I don't like woods.
Wimbledon Common is boring after so many years, Richmond Park is like Picadilly Circus when the sun comes out and again I have to drive to somewhere like Kew.
Just want fresh air and a view.

the thames is gorgeous! - a great beach substitute! you can walk all the way from kingston to richmond, I LOVE that walk and the bits in the middle of that walk are fairly quiet even in summer

Hampton court has loads of space

There are quieter parts of Richmond park

London is a really green city, its fabulous in the summer! I spent more time outdoors walking when I lived in London than I ever did in the country!

I live in a city by the sea and I live in the city centre. I don't go to the see that much however as it is still a drive or 30 minute walk away just to get to the walk! I should really go more often but just wanted to demonstrate that unless buying a house right by the sea (as in the surrounding streets) you'd still have to travel to it.

I used to llive two streets away from the beach but I hardly went. Madness, would love to be back in the same house now I have a baby to walk, instead of this post-industrial delight I am stuck with :-(

I live by the sea - 20 minute walk to the beach, 10 to the river & not far from the forest either. I used to live right on the cliff but rarely took advantage of it. Silly. I am very, very lucky and I know it.

I'm also envious of people who live by the sea.
I live in Derbyshire, so some lovely walks around here, but about the furthest away from the sea as you can get in England.
A lovely canal at the bottom of our road though, so great for bike rides.

I'd much rather walk in a city than the countryside, I find it boring, but I love to people watch, and stop to look in shop windows.

Freddiebump · 22/05/2012 10:46

I moved from a city centre to a little village a couple of years ago and I would never go back! The village is big enough to have a couple of decent shops, 20 minutes drive into a choice of two city centres, depending on which way you go, but walk 50 yards down my street and I can get on a selection of footpaths that lead over open countryside. There's a wonderful nature reserve and lake 20 minutes walk away, where I've been this morning with the dog, I can stand outside my front door and hear cows, sheep and horses, yet it's only a short commute to work. I love it!

There are loads of nice walks in London. Are you anywhere near the Capital Ring? I lived in Tottenham for years. One day we found a public footpath near Manor House that was so quiet and secluded there were swans sitting on their eggs on the footpath-side of the stream.

Do a bit of googling, I bet you can find somewhere.

I live by the sea. I take a walk to check it's still there almost every day. :)
