to want to give up work?

My husband earns more in 6 weeks than I do in one year, yet I still do: the school run, go to work, leave work early to pick up DD/DS, bring work home, do the shopping, cook the supper, clean up, sort the laundry, tidy the house, keep everything organised except my brain. Now that we can comfortably afford for me to give up work and still pay the school fees, do I give up? Except, of course, do I give up my career? I've already resigned but my boss is begging me to stay and I know I'm pretty good at my job. BTW, DH is away a lot and actually has to earn his exhorbitant salary, so please don't say "get DH to do more around the house" - and we already have cleaners.... So: is it an easy life and a bored brain, or carry on as I am and be permanently frazzled...????

Why did you say 'money is a dreadful thing'? I don't understand that.

It doesn't sound like you yearn to be a SAHM tbh - more that the balance is out currently. If you weren't taking work home - i.e. you didn't finish early, that was your official finish time, would you be less frazzled?

Tbh, housework & cooking, especially as you have a cleaner, doesn't sound that big a deal. Maybe your cleaner could do laundry too?

It's one thing to give up a job you hate in a role you could walk back into (providing jobs were available) but it's a serious decision to make a decision that could end your career.

I wouldn't do it. Especially when it sounds like you have a chance to negotiate reduced hours, as your boss wants you to stay.

Maybe you need more than just a cleaner? If you are working FT and have two DCs, and your DH is away a lot, just a cleaner doesn't sound enough to me. How about a mother's help or nanny/housekeeper?

Midweek slump "I actually feel sorry for the people who say they could never give up - to me they just lack imagination"

Bit insulting. Why is being a SAHP more imaginative than working?

Well having just had 4 straight days at home with my toddler I am ecstatic at the thought of going back to work tomorrow Grin.
