Have just opened my bank statement and noticed several transactions from Apple. Have checked apple account and its all for bloody 'gems' for Dragon vale.
DD1 is 11 and (normally) very sensible with her ipod and will even ask me if she can download a free app.
Have now changed the password on the account, and my initial reaction was to be furious with her but am now wondering if she really didn't realize they weren't free.
AIBU to read her the riot act when she gets home, or should I begin from the point of she may have made a mistake??

I'd just ask her menacingly calmly about them and see what she says/how she reacts. If it was just a mistake then you can explain to her your viewpoint and the course of action you've taken (password change etc).

If it wasn't a mistake then a mini-riot act might be appropriate Wink!

Don't go in all guns blazing first. But also don't give her excuses to use. Just ask whether she can explain it, and go from there.

Depends what you've told her in the past - my dd is the same age and knows if the ipad asks for the password then its probably for money and she is to come and check with me. So if my dd had done this I'd be cross. If you haven't had a similar conversation then she may not have realised.

Can you turn off in game purchases? You can on the ipad.

You need to disable in app purchases from the settings>general>restrictions
That way they can't buy any of the tempting stuff.

I would guess that your DD knows they need to be paid for, my 8YO certainly does.

The difference between aquiring gems and coins (which are free) is made pretty obvious.

To be fair though, we have our iPad set to disallow in game purchases so you should probably ask calmly first.

My husband on the other hand has knowingly spent £10 on acorns for his Ice Age village. I'm wondering who the child is in this house.
