Barred I read an interview where he said he modelled his accent on people he knows in Bolton (or it may have been Blackburn), but definitely West of the Pennines. My husband hails from there and he confirms it is that area . The actor is really from Cornwall, maybe they thought an 'oo-arr' accent would be too stereotypical for a gardening show!
