To bin the sweets and chocolate!

DS1 has so much rubbish food in the house at the moment its starting to annoy me.

We still have Easter eggs and sweets left over from his birthday. Now it is birthday party season at school and he is bringing home sweets in party bags plus the kids also take sweets into school.

I'm not a mean mum and he has his fair share of treats but the build up is starting to get a bit daft.

What do you do with it all? Seems a waste to bin it? I could eat the chocolate but I'm not into sweets.

Before anyone asks, yes I do have over stuff to worry about! I'm putting off doing the hoovering!!!

well, if it's birthday party season, that suggests your DS's friends are all having birthdays at the same time of year, so once that's over, you'll have a lull in the sweets/chocolate coming into the house until the run up to Christmas? Why not just put it away and hand over bit periodically through the rest of the year? Most sweets/chocolates last for at least 6 months, there's no rush...

Last week I had a mad fit, collected all the easter eggs and melted them down to make chocolate Rice Krispie cakes.

They're all gone now and very nice they were too Grin

Worra good idea, we have lots of leftover chocolate eggs, will melt them down and make something out of them, thanks, for the idea, Worra!

Shock that people still have E.Eggs left!
I too can't really see the problem - just keep them in the "naughty cupboard" and eke them out over time. Presumably he's not bringing home massive family packs of sweets from these other children's birthdays ? Surely they are eaten as you go along ?

WorraLiberty · 20/05/2012 16:14

cheese it's amazing how little chocolate there actually is after melting so you might need to buy a large bar too like I did Grin

You could always use some of the sweets as a gift for a birthday party to save a bit of money, buy a nice children's mug with the child's favourite character on it, fill with sweets, wrap in cellophane and top off with a ribbon.

Thanks for rice crispie cake idea, think our Easter eggs will be heading that way.

It all seems to pile up! DS2 was given loads of eggs and he is only little and not a massive fan of chocolate yet.

DS1 was given 2 big bags of sweets for his birthday plus chocolate.

I find he eats so much rubbish at the party then has the cake when he gets home that he doesn't really want/need the sweets as well!

I sound really mean!

Make Victoria Sponge in two tins. Remove from oven and tins. Put one cake on plate. Layer with broken up Easter egg. Plonk other cake on top. Sprinkle with more chocolate pieces and Cadburys mini eggs if available. Return to oven for 5 minutes until chocolate melted. Eat slices warm with cream. Tell children that mice got in and ate all the chocolate.
