to have put the cat out

DD (11) selected this cat from a rescue centre two years ago. It is primarily an indoor cat and don't get me wrong, he is a lovely cat. However, since DD started at secondary school in September, she's been out of the house for longer and so have I as I have increased my hours at work slightly. The cat for some reason is convinced I am his rightful owner (to the disgust of DD) and I cannot do a thing, go anywhere or sit anywhere without this cat deciding to join me. At night, if I go from my bed to the toilet, the cat follows me. If I sit on the sofa with a cup of tea, the cat sits on me. He also miaows or does that strange cross between a purr and miaow (a 'trill'?) almost constantly.

He is also quite a nervous cat so if I cough, sneeze fart or similar, he leaps off me and streaks across the room looking petrified, then creeps back, trilling away.

I need to do housework. I have chucked him out. AIBU?

No Percy can drive me mental every now and again ....... with his half roar half mieow.... i send him out to play with his friends ;)

Be prepared for 'presents' in the form of mice as the cat believes it has upset you......

I kick my 3 out all the time. I like my house lovely and hair free for an hour.. Sad

Geranium3 · 19/05/2012 20:07

Ah bless him! no u r nbu as long as you let him back soon and make a big fuss of him or he will give you such dirty looks!!! Why don't you get him a little kitten to keep him company? he may not be quite so needy of you then!

LST · 19/05/2012 20:09

I second get him a kitten Smile

MissMogwi · 19/05/2012 20:10

Aw he loves you.Grin

I can't go for a wee without my shadow following me. The kids stopped it and she took over.

huddlecuddle · 19/05/2012 20:11

I'd love to - don't think DH would be as keen!

He's also petrified of other cats, which is why I feel mean because there are lots of cats around here. Having said that, it's blissful to enjoy a glass or two of wine without the cat "butting" my wine glass!

He sounds a love, my tabby boy was very needy, always looking worried! In fact when my cat gave birth to 5 kittens, he came out looking worried so decided to keep him'along with his very tubby bro, was meant to only keep one!! You sound a lovely understanding mum to him, because in his eyes, that is what you are!!

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 19/05/2012 20:20

Yanbu! Is he part Siamese? My Siamese is JUST like that...he also mews ALL THE TIME if he's not getting stroked or talked to. PITA...I love him but can't bear it at times.

NicNocJnr · 19/05/2012 20:21

Did you get a small face at the window? Cat says YABU!!

Ours think outside is rather pointless and often not as comfortable as inside so any attempt to keep them out is met with a row of faces trying to guilt-melt the window or just getting shouted at until it's unbearable, in 3 pitches no less. They've succeeded in making it more hassle tbh...totally pussy whipped.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 19/05/2012 20:22

Does anyone think a male Siamese would like a kitten? I could get mine a little moggy to be with?

tabulahrasa · 19/05/2012 20:25

My Siamese got clinger when I got her a kitten...now she needs to not just be on me, but closer than the other cat and showing her that she's closer. She also has to come and sit on me if I pay any attention to the other cat or call the other cat.

Marne · 19/05/2012 20:26

He sounds like my cat Smile, last night i chucked him outside (to have some me time) and he was hit by a car Sad, he came home injured and now has to stay in a cage for a week as his tail is fractured. He is now crying because he cant be with me and cant cuddle his best friend (the dog).

tabulahrasa · 19/05/2012 20:26

Clingier... She was already a clinger, lol

NicNocJnr · 19/05/2012 20:29

Orientals tend to be very people oriented rather than interested in other cats a great deal (although plenty have companions).

If you have enough space for them to 'be' and not have to interact but can come and be friendly with each other when in the mood it should be fine and they may become great mates. It'll be worth considering age & sex and go from there.

naturalbaby · 19/05/2012 20:29

I have a cat like that. I have brushed her aside on many, many occasions because she trips me up when I'm trying to get stuff done. Last week she got out and hasn't been back since. Sad

NicNocJnr · 19/05/2012 20:30

Also agree the cats each paired up with a dog and prefer them to each other...and me most of all [rollseyes]

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 19/05/2012 20:32

Mine is here now...marching up and down on the inch of space between me and the table...he's saying "Mrrreaow!" and then marching some more.

Geranium3 · 19/05/2012 20:33

get well wishes to marne's mog. This is nice and cosy for a saturday night, watching adele at the albert hall on bbc3 and talking puss cats on AIBU!!!!
