To expect my daughter to look a bit more 'loosened up' in the evenings

I don't know about anybody else or their children but personally I couldn't wait to get home from school and get changed out of uniform or at the very least make it a bit more comfortable. I can't understand how DD can be comfortable still looking smart until bedtime. Is it just her or anybody elses kids like this?

Mine don't tend to get out of their uniform unless they are going somewhere else, but I'd hardly call it 'smart' Grin

wibble73 · 18/05/2012 21:25

She won't even loosen her tie or untuck her shirt, so smart in my opinion!

Is she relaxed?

sandyboots · 18/05/2012 21:29

saving you extra washing so YABU Smile

Krumbum · 18/05/2012 21:33

When I was at school I didn't care, getting changed was effort lol. School uniforms aren't particularly uncomfortable.

elvisaintdead · 18/05/2012 21:34

I don't rush to get changed from work, my kids don't rush to get changed from school. It's no biggie really if she's happy what's the drama?

workshy · 18/05/2012 21:34

I always used to stay in full uniform with tie, didn't like the feel of the proper shirt collar without a tie, and couldn't be arsed getting changed Grin

wibble73 · 18/05/2012 21:36

It's not so much the staying in uniform, I just find it odd that she doesn't want to make it more comfortable, but obviously I don't tell her that. Surely most other teenagers would at least take off their tie or something?

oh yes wibble

dd looks v smart all day in her blazer and comes home looking just as smart

no idea where she gets it from

HokeyCokeyPigInaPokey · 18/05/2012 21:37

Mine hate getting changed if we are indoors and would happily wear their uniform all evening.

wigwaminamustardmill · 18/05/2012 21:37

My teenagers stay in their uniforms, often including ties and blazers, unless they are going out. I don't mind, it saves me washing two outfits each every day.

wibble73 · 18/05/2012 21:37

workshy - did you used to have it properly done up or loosened though?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 18/05/2012 21:39

she sounds relaxed in her own skin, wish i'd had that so young!

workshy · 18/05/2012 21:39

properly done up (even if it was on with the skinny bit at the front or short and fat depending on the fashion at the time) couldn't stand it loose

WithACherryOnTop · 18/05/2012 21:44

Am I going mad or did we have this exact same thread a month ago?

wibble73 · 18/05/2012 21:45

I don't understand it though - her elder sisters stay in uniform too but they don't look 'smart' at all!

Df used to think we should always get changed as soon as coming in from school. What the actually meant was we all rushed to get changed when we heard his squeaky bike coming (or the blackbird that learnt to immitate it).

Of course there was the time I pulled my dsis into the bath in her school uniform and she had to go in the next day in her own clothes Grin

WithACherryOnTop · 18/05/2012 21:58

You seem to have a bit of a uniform fixation,OP. All of the posts you've made are about your dd's uniform.

WithACherryOnTop · 18/05/2012 21:59

Well uniforms.

missmapp · 18/05/2012 21:59

I was just thinking the same withacherryontop!!!

WithACherryOnTop · 18/05/2012 22:04

I wonder why.

Loshad · 18/05/2012 22:22

i make mine get changed when we get in!
or used to have to, these days they rush and get changed without prompting. Don't know why it bothers me, maybe because i teach as well but i really do not like having tea with the kids still in their ties and blazers

ReindeerBollocks · 18/05/2012 22:24

I make DS change, and I always changed immediately when I got in from school.

How the hell can it be comfy to stay in a blazer all evening?!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 18/05/2012 22:30

I think teens are happiest when left to be as they wish, regardless of what we think is normal.

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 18/05/2012 22:32

Maybe she is happy to stay in her uniform?

I don't care if mine change or not tbh
