To think its a no brainer that children don't have sweets after brushing teeth

Dhs dad is here for the evening. Dh is out. I am really glad that grandfather came to park. Turned a blind eye to the ice cream bought at end of trip just before tea time. But then children went to brush teeth, he knew what they were off to do because I handed each dc a loaded tooth brush to take. Took baby dd2 upstairs. Come down to get dc and they are eating sweets that gf has given them. I have still said nothing but got dc to brush again. I know I've had help and I'm grateful, which is why I'm not going to say anything but I am really cross that a busy bedtime has been made harder than if it was just me.

Sorry, but really would be a non issue for me....

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2012 19:22

So you didn't say in a loud voice, with raised eyebrows "Now you will have to brush your teeth again?" I would. Free babysitting or not. (You are going out, aren't you? Otherwise that is not help, it's just hanging out with you Hmm)

Non issue? Seriously? Confused

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2012 19:24

Hands Molehillmountain a Wine.

And well done for getting them into bed before 7.30pm when it's not dark outside.

DaisySteiner · 18/05/2012 19:24

Actually, sweets are better eaten straight after brushing your teeth because there are fewer bacteria in your mouth to feed on the sugar from the sweets. Smile

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/05/2012 19:25

We are talking about milk teeth - the acid in fruit juice is worse than a bit of sugar

Molehillmountain · 18/05/2012 19:25

Nope- I am staying in! Absolutely, teeth aren't going to rot over a few bedtime sweets. Won't make it an issue but sets poor example and undermines what we usually do.

I would say in this case your name is very apt really.

If it was every night I would agree with you but as a one off its not the end of the world or worth making an issue out of.

Molehillmountain · 18/05/2012 19:27

Thanks for the wine! In bed not necessarily same as asleep Wink. They have fab grandparents-amazing in fact. Not so hot on the dental hygiene however....

No but I named myself honestly and aptly Wink

I would have said something like "Gaa - now I'll have to clean their teeth again." With a friendly smile but a bit of an eye roll.

RobinSparkles · 18/05/2012 19:33

I think as a one off it won't do much harm.

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2012 19:37

It's Friday night.

You all obviously do Friday nights with 3 DCbetter than me.

It's about 20 mins before I tell my 6yo "I'm not interested that you can't sleep, just go and LIE DOWN"

I'm going now to brush their teeth once, and read stories, and pretend I care that some random child in her class spelled her name wrong on the friendship bracelet.

Molehillmountain · 18/05/2012 19:51

That'll be two of us then Grin I think overall I'm best not to sweat the sweet eating but still I remain a little surprised that it happened. That was the point really-Aibu to be surprised rather than should I make a big scene.

I've just done "I'm just popping downstairs to do some jobs and I'll be back in five minutes" Wink

You do realise the same FIL will give them whiskey when they are 13, don't you?

Do not be suprised, do not make a scene, and what ever you do, do not post on MN about it, or you will be flamed.

(Yes, I'm putting off reading stories)
