Pinched the idea from another forum where a 'buggyless' lady was told to take the escalator by a Mum with a buggy because she thought she should have priority over the lift...

Was at the bus stop after a trip to the local supermarket. Bus pulled up but I'm only short and couldn't see if there were any other buggies onboard. I asked the driver if there was any room and he said 'there will be in a minute pet'...

He then yelled down the bus 'them 2 kids are big enough to walk and sit on the normal seats - one of you fold your buggy' to 2 Mums with (estimated) 4 year olds in buggies so that I could get on with my pram and 4 month old.

I was mortified and tried to say 'no, I'll wait for the next one (25 mins). Other Mums also looked hard as fook nails so I was a bit scared! There was a lot of huffing and puffing and they weren't impressed.

Best buggy saga please??

Good for the bus driver! I once had a stand off with an old cow who was taking up the buggy space with her shopping trolley. I won!

I used to walk to the stop before the high street to avoid the scrum of prams and get on first.

york67 · 18/05/2012 09:48

I had a 2 year old and a newborn and a fab/expensive Phil and Teds buggy.
I parked the car in a residential street and went to do some shopping. On my return and got dc in car and shopping and drove up road to turn round and drive home.
I was flagged down by a man in one of the houses because I left the buggy behind!
Agree good on bus driver.
I also had a dodgy experience on a bus. Had a dental appoint and couldn't drive due to csection. Bus journey took ages, down country lanes etc. Not sure how i managed to stop buggy and 2 year old go flying (even with brake on) whilst breastfeeding newborn!

Well, there was the time that DS's buggy got a flat tyre just outside Halfords, so I went in there and asked for help - the fit young fellows in there said yes, they could help me and it would only cost me £15, and then proceeded to stand around whistling whilst I struggled on my own with a tyre pump and a by then crying baby.

Ah. Still, I can laugh about it now. Oh no, hang on...nope, I'm still mad.

Gravity1 · 18/05/2012 09:54

I once parked sleeping baby in my Phil and Ted under a tree in the shade while I sat slightly off and behind on a bench, reading. Not long before I spotted dodgy looking chap eyeing buggy. He strolled over, looked around, and went for the buggy. He saw baby and me at exactly the same time, and suddenly started the whilstling innocently equivalent of checking his mobile, and wandered off...

BigHairyFlowers · 18/05/2012 09:55

Btw, I expect the women on the bus would have folded down their buggies if they had been asked nicely, I expect they were huffing because the bus driver was so rude about it...!

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 10:04

I have a Babystyle Oyster and am ALWAYS kicking the wheel release buttons (can you see where this is going?) I was walking along down a slope and kicked the button, the back wheel works it's way out and carries on rolling down the slope. Took me ages to catch up with it pushing an unstable now 3 wheeled buggy and holding the dog. Must've looked a right sight!

Babycameearly · 18/05/2012 10:07

BigHairy - I'd have cried in Halfords / dumped the crying baby on the least capable looking blokey and watched him struggle whilst you fixed it!

I had a secondhand Maclaren lightweight buggy when ddtwins were about 3, I sometimes used it, sometimes had them walking. One day, in a hurry so decided to use buggy rather than travel at warp factor toddler, the buggy was a bit recalcitrant about unfolding and clicking into place, but got there in the end, loaded the girls and off we went. Fifty yards down the street it all started to sink in on itself, only hands, feet and faces still visible in a heap of red and white striped cloth and broken struts. Kind passers by helped me excavate the children out!

revolutionconfirmed · 18/05/2012 10:18

I was strolling along when I came to a sudden stop. I checked the breaks, pushed a bit harder, rechecked the breaks, tested them, pushed again...nothing.

Turns out there was a bollard in the way and I couldn't see it under the sunshade so I was just jamming the end of the seat into a damn bollard.

This has also happened twice with a trolley. I don't learn.

takingiteasy · 18/05/2012 10:20

revolutionconfirmed Did anyone see?

revolutionconfirmed · 18/05/2012 10:22

Probably. It's right next to a main road and God only knows who was behind me. Definitely heard sniggering with the trolley incidents!

akaemmafrost · 18/05/2012 10:23

My funniest buggy story is paying over £300.00 for one when dd was 3 and thinking that was a sensible thing to do, it's hollow laughter though.

DeWe · 18/05/2012 10:24

Our buggy was squeaking really badly. Dh was pushing dd1 round B&Q with this dreadful squeak following him. Chap came up to him, said "allow me" and oiled the wheel. No more squeak!

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 18/05/2012 10:25

My friend who's a bus driver once had 3 women get on with a pushchair and toddler each. My friend said there wasn't room for 3 pushchairs, and after much grumbling one folded hers down and lay it on the floor of the aisle. Friend explained why it couldn't be left there so after more grumbling it was moved. The women then got off at the next stop. My friend couldn't believe that they hadnt just walked that distance in the first place!

GnocchiNineDoors · 18/05/2012 10:27

I laughed inwardly in Mamas and Papas when a Man and Woman with their DD were looking at pushchairs. Their DD was, in my opinion, at least 3 or 4 and running around chatting etc. They asked the sales assistant for advice on a few of the pushchairs (not strollers, the big from birth ones) as were wanting a parent-facing one, and the assistant asked how far along the Mother was (skinny as a rake) who said "no, no, it's for DD". Both mine and the assistant's jaws dropped Grin

Babycameearly · 18/05/2012 10:29

Ooh - I also had an incident where I got on to the bus - 1 buggy already on and a lady sat in the other buggy bay seat. I asked politely if she would please move so I could get the pram in. (There were loads of other seats)

She did move nut complained REALLY loudly to the poor soul she then inflicted herself on sat next to that 'we never had these spaces when I had my kids, it's a disgrace that I had to move...'

Was desperate to say 'you didn't have indoor bathrooms when you were a kid but you'd not like to back to that would you?' but wimped out!!

lizziebennet · 18/05/2012 10:33

Gnocchi I wonder if the couple were adopting the little girl? The advice is that when you first get your child home with you, you should have them in a parent-facing buggy to encourage bonding - just a thought. Otherwise, yes, very weird.

NiniLegsInTheAir · 18/05/2012 10:33

gravity that made me Shock!

tabulahrasa · 18/05/2012 10:34

I suspect I'm somebody else's nightmare entitled woman with a buggy story...

When DD was about 2 she took to suddenly putting her feet on the wheels of the buggy, so you'd be walking along and suddenly the front wheels wouldn't turn. She did it one day in a shop, so I rather loudly and a bit sternly said - FEET.

I looked up to see a horrified looking woman moving out of my way, I did try and tell her I actually hadn't seen her and was talking to DD, but she didn't look convinced, rofl

GnocchiNineDoors · 18/05/2012 10:35

Hmm but even at that age, a simple stroller or cheap ebayed buggy would be good? £400 on something that would be used maybe a month or two?

Totally get the facing you to bond thing though.

McKayz · 18/05/2012 10:42

The only thing I can think of is we went out with my brother. I thought I had unfolded the buggy properly. Sat DS2 in it and went to push him and it folded up around him. Poor little man looked so surprised.

whatsthatnoise · 18/05/2012 11:05

Gnocchi my dd is 3.5 she can't walk distance as she has low muscle tone. I much prefer her in a parent facing buggy so that we can chat.

However I no longer have a parent facing buggy after the chassis fell apart while i was pushing it up a hill. I must have looked some sight with a non mobile toddler and a buggy that was in bits. Grin

Jodidi · 18/05/2012 11:08

I was at toddler group with a friend. We both took the kids in their buggies back to our cars. I got my dd and her buggy into the car. She put her kids into the car and was going back to fold the double buggy up to put in the boot. An old man backed out of the space next to her and flattened her buggy Shock. The old man was mildly apologetic and offered to pay for a new buggy but she was in bits as she had literally just taken her 3 week old baby out of it.

averageyorkshiremum · 18/05/2012 11:26

I accidently took someonesles buggy after a baby class Blush. Both green luna mix prams and i was very flustered because Ds wasn't enjoying the class, crawling off and toddling around and generally disinterested much to the annoyance of the music teacher witch who was running it. Tried to sneak out discreetly half way through and had to come back 5 mins later shamefaced for the correct pram
In Ds defence it was supposed to be a fun song/dance session for 0-18 mths and they were given song books and not allowed to touch any instruments while she wailed on and on.

Gravity1 · 18/05/2012 11:39

One time I was parked in a large car park, took DD out of the buggy in a hurry since it was raining, and got her into the car, safely strapped in. I then turned to sort the buggy out and it was gone. Completely. Not a sign of it. My face must have been a picture! After 10 stunned seconds or so later I saw a woman walking towards me with it from waaaaaay across the car park...the hood had been up because of the rain and it had caught the wind and just blown completely away! I was rather pleased that I had at least removed the baby before it disappeared!
