Odd title I know!

But does anyone else have experiences of this? It does my head in. I'm on an online forum on facebook with a group of women and we all had babies at a similar time. There are about 40 of us on this group.

One of the group appears to be comfortably off and the group seems to revolve around her. If she's not there for a few days people are worrying about her and posting messages to see if she is ok. When she posts photos of her house on facebook everyone is falling over themselves to comment and bum lick. She posts photos of her kids and again everyone is doing the same, commenting about how wonderful their clothes are and how gorgeous they look. She might post a status saying they've been to the cinema or for a pizza and everyone will post about what exciting things they do and how wonderful her life and family is. When she goes on holiday the whole group is on tenterhooks wondering how she's getting on, with some members texting her to check she's arrived safely. She ordered a new washing machine and you'd think she'd ordered a £100,000 Ferrari from how some went on about it.

She is currently selling her house and she gets tagged daily on the Facebook group from groupies asking for an update about the house sale and where is she moving to and oh what a silly viewer the one yesterday was as surely they should snap up a house like hers as it's just so wonderful. It's all getting rather sickening.

I can't help feeling that if she lived in a council house, she and her husband were on the dole and dressed their kids from charity shops that she wouldn't get the amount of attention she does. By the way she seems a fairly nice person but also quite self absorbed. It seems like loads of the group members want to be her and live their life through her.

As per your thread title, just imagine them all with yukky tongues. And move on. You don't have to be involved at all - your choice.

Rhiana1979 · 18/05/2012 10:57

There are very few things I loathe more in life than hearing the terms "bum licking" "arse licking" and "brown nosing". Just the words alone put such a disgusting image in my head ... yuck.

Agreed

We never really leave the school playground. In life, in friendship circles, at work, on Mumsnet. There will always be a hierachy that started life at playtime. You will always have a 'leader' of the pack, a bunch of followers who do so either to emulate the leader, or because the alternative is to be the odd few on the fringes of the schoolyard. Some people don't feel it necessary to be part of a gang/group and get on quite happily. Don't let them get you down. If it's something that irritates you or effects your enjoyment of the group, then just leave it and move on.

Carrymecarrie · 18/05/2012 12:00

I know someone who gets her arse kissed on Facebook.
It's like people are waiting to pounce on her every comment or next move.
It's amazing how many people take an interest in a picture of a cake.
I post something, not a peep!

JustFab · 18/05/2012 12:06

Maybe they are hoping she will give them some of her money.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/05/2012 12:06

Methe - People fawn over Xenia! I have only ever seen her being attacked on here, not fawned over at all. Must be on threads I don't look at

porcamiseria · 18/05/2012 12:30

delete her
delete the arse lickers

LISTEN TO ME

  • when facebook annoys you, its not fucking worth it

gavel

TroublesomeEx · 18/05/2012 12:32

I think sometimes people do it to prove they're not jealous.

I had a friend who fawned over people she perceived to be prettier and thinner than her to their faces and in public generally yet behind their backs (i.e. to me) she was positively vile about them!

so the difference between:

To them: "You're so dainty and petite. You look beautiful. You're so svelte...."

To me: "Only men scared of sex would touch them. It's a fact that men who only fancy skinny women with no tits are scared of sex"

I'm no longer friends with her. Perhaps you could take a lesson from that!

bobbledunk · 18/05/2012 13:01

I had a teacher at school who once she realised who my parents were apoligised for having punished me for everything I had done wrong up to that point and started to ignore my bad behaviour. My father had to come into the school and demand I be disciplined for my own and everybody else's sake. She claimed she couldn't because I was so 'adorable', something I have never beenHmm.

One of my oldest friends is surrounded by people like this, she's lovely but I prefer meeting up with her alone or with my friends because most of hers are so lickarsey. She orders chicken and hears how she's so amazing and has such wonderful tasteConfused, every single little thing is a sign of her superiority, it's intolerable. I don't know how she can stand them but she must enjoy the ego stroking.

Some people are very strange, I don't know whether they think the extra money/status is going to rub off on them or whether the object of their fawning is going to consider them so charming that they will give them money or an upgraded job. Maybe they just like the association with what they percieve to be a 'better' life.

porcamiseria · 18/05/2012 13:08

jims

FYI I have gone on a huge facebook diet for this very thing

I never lick bums. Very unhygienic. My cat does lick her own bum though but that's cats for you.

However not only does she have her own local tom cat 'followers'... she also has her own little facebook fanbase. I only have to post a photo of her looking 'cute' & it gets several likes & positive comments MAINLY FROM MEN!!
Photos of ME don't get that level of attention. Pah.

Time to post a photo of my cat licking her own bum before she gets too vain... however that kind of photo may appeal to certain tastes; sooo best not!!

porcamiseria · 18/05/2012 13:52

exactly tough

I like their bloody dull status updates! no more I saw......

porcamiseria · 18/05/2012 13:52

latara

men like pussy, clearly....

cheesesarnie · 18/05/2012 14:07

maybe she just has good taste and possibly interesting/ nice person?

i also hate the term arse licking etc.

recently i asked on fb for help with a broken computer, 3 people offered advice. my sister said they were arse lickers.

before or after that i was having trouble with coursework, moaned on fb and a couple of friends offered to show me where i was going wrong. sister once again labelled them as arse lickers.

if friends being nice and helping each other is arse licking fair enough but why cant people be nice/friendly without being accussed of arse licking.

Latara · 18/05/2012 14:21

Facebook has some good points yet....

It hurts to read the frequent status updates by colleagues showing off their babies or boasting about their diamond rings; weddings & exotic holidays.
Those updates are the ones who get the most 'Likes' or comments.

It's bad enough going to work & hearing all the baby / wedding talk when i feel especially lonely / broody; without seeing it all on my phone too...
OK; I'm pleased for them but... also badly achingly envious & i hate myself for it :(

Latara · 18/05/2012 14:23

porcamiseria - hehe

herethereandeverywhere · 18/05/2012 14:30

Wow, an incredibly long and detailed description and it's very own thread in AIBU - one may ask why you're so bothered by what you describe (which is essentially a bit of interaction on facebook)? Sour grapes?

(And I agree with those who think "bum lick" is an awful term. Makes me heave.)

Chandon · 18/05/2012 14:36

I think you sound a bit jealous of her.

Why do you even check her FB page out if she is not a close friend?

Now something that really annoys me are the sycophantic radio interviews on Radio 2, with slebs.

R2DJ (is it Jeremy Vine or someone like that?Steve Wright?): "Helloo! We have Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt/BernardfromXfactor/ActorIneverheardof/ in today, Tom can I just start with saying how amazing you are?!
TC" yeah well, hahaha"
R2DJ"And your latest film is just fantastic, I saw it last night and I thought it was brilliant. Easily the best film I have ever seen"
TC "well, we do try to please"
R2DJ " Tell me, Tom, do you ever get tired of being so amazing and brilliant, and just fantastic?"
TC "Actually, I work with a fantastic team..."
R2DJ:"Well, I am sure they all love working with you, as you are so great. tell me, do you ever get time to sleep, you have 3 brilliant films out at the moment!
TC "well, yes..."
R2DJ "And the amazing thing is, they are ALL amazing and brilliant and fantastic. They are funny and smart and really made me think"
TC "Glad you liked it"
R2DJ: I think the listeners will agree when I say how amazing and fantastic you are...

etc ad infinitum.Angry

drives me nuts.

Not jealous though.Wink

I just switch it off.

OhNoMyFanjo · 18/05/2012 14:38

Not unusual, have seen threads saying tge same thing before.

Mosman · 18/05/2012 14:44

We have one of those and I actually feel a bit sorry for her, she's just living her life, enjoying her kids and doing what she always has. The fanclub seem to compelled to applaud her every move, it must be embarrassing tbh.

Hyperballad · 18/05/2012 14:57

Jim, it's annoying isn't it! But this is where I just love the fact I'm not a sheep and I find stuff like this laughable. People kiss arse on here too.

I have a massive following but thats because of my amazing personality................

Grin
Hyperballad · 18/05/2012 15:07

Chandon, agree with you! So much radio and tv is kissing arse these days and going on about how amazing everyone is, so much so that they seem to forget the listeners and viewers. I turn off too usually saying a most satisfactory expletive to myself too!

Same with FB, too much of all of that and I'm "delete". It's my bit of fun! Smile
