Turning to the wisdom of my fellow mumsnetters - I am appealing to you all for your opinion on the meals served up at your children's school - are you happy with what they get to eat - do the schools always serve nutritionally balanced food or is it just cheap old crap laden with e-numbers?

Is there a difference in quality of food served between state and indie schools?

Answers please on a postcard .....

Thanks in advance.

We are happy with ours. All cooked from scratch on the premises and they are offered veggie sticks/ freshly baked bread in addition to this I ask my dcs regularly what they had for lunch and it matches up to what is on the menu. They seem to like them. (State school.) I've been to taster days and liked them. Lots of teachers eat school lunches by they way.

Forgot to mention there is a jacket potato/baguette option too

Dd gets a hot main choice eg pizza ,home cooked pie, fish, spag bog etc which she generally picks but has since discovered the jacket potato option for the kids that dont like the main. They also get a choice of fruit yoghurt or pudding.Im a bit put out Im paying £10.50 a week for her to live off jacket spuds though ! Worth the money though for her to have hot food at dinnertime.
