Aibu to get my baby up at 5am to see the Olympic torch start at lands end?

We live pretty locally and I think it would be a waste of an opportunity to get involved and enjoy all the excitement. Ds won't care obviously (16 months) but id love to be able to tell him 'you were there!'

However- I've never got him up that early before and am a bit worried it'll be a massive mistake! I'll take breakfast down with us. Have the pram in case he needs a sleep and the reins if he wants a toddle.

I suspect it'll be packed which might make it difficult with a baby, but surely it's an opportunity not to be missed?

I'm sure one day won't hurt. Yanbu.

belgo · 16/05/2012 08:18

It will be fine! Have a great time.

Showmethemhappyfeet · 16/05/2012 08:20

If you want to go, go. Take the pram, make sure baby is wrapped up warm. Take something he likes to settle him if he gets too grumpy. The odd change in routine won't hurt by this age.
It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, why not take it?!

juneau · 16/05/2012 08:43

Agreed - if you had a flight to catch you'd get up early so why not this? It's a one-off. So wrap him up warm, take some warm food for him and some toys, and enjoy.

trixymalixy · 16/05/2012 08:46

Definitely not to be missed!

ajandjjmum · 16/05/2012 08:47

Go for it! Have fun.

euphrosyne · 16/05/2012 08:48

Do it! and do not forget your camera!

Lac365 · 16/05/2012 08:49

I'm jealous that you baby is still sleeping at that time!

I say go too and have a great time.
Won't do him any harm at all.

Have a fab time!

DDtwins know they were there for the '99 Eclipse even though they were only 7 months old and one of them went to sleep during totality. Do it!

ripsishere · 16/05/2012 08:52

Do it, we took DD to many things when she was that age. A lot started early doors because of the heat.

startail · 16/05/2012 08:56

Yes DD was watching the Eclipse (clouds darkenAngry) aged one.

Well actually she was asleep in her pushchair.

Baby sitting GPs say she'd dosed off infront of the telly at midnight 2000 too.

But she still like the idea she was there, especially as DD2 wasn't born till 2001

nellyjelly · 16/05/2012 09:01

My baby (wel toddler) pretty much gets up at 5am anyway! Unfortunately.

Some0ne · 16/05/2012 09:07

We're thinking of bringing our 24 month and 3 month olds to see the torch drive by on a motorway near us Blush

washingonawednesday · 16/05/2012 09:08

Thanks! We're there! Prepare for Sundays aibu of 'was I unreasonable to throw ds off the cliffs at lands end as he screamed the whole time, kept running off and hit David Cameron on the leg with his tractor...' Wink
