to apply for another job?

Tslk sense to me please.

I have a good job. Not perfect but ok.

A few months ago i applied for a more perfect job, was interviewed and was gutted to not get it.

Last month had interview for a job i felt i should apply for but didn't much want and wasn't gutted to not get offered it.

I just clicked the submit button for a completely different job. One i could do alongside my current job if i dropped my hours. Its not something i was looking for but could be really interesting.

It would be a jiggle with my current hours with a bit of hassle but could work. But i suspect my current manager types wouldn't be best pleased. But that would be tough and i don't think theres anything they could do about it.

They could work sort of together i think. Kind of complementary.

What do you think?

i don't think theres anything they could do about it.

Depends what your job is, because potentially there is a lot they could do about it if there is a conflict of interests. Check your contract of employment.

DameHermione · 15/05/2012 22:28

Not really i don't think.

Job1.... mw

Job2.....sexual health nurse

Both same employee. Same site

Both big in preventative health and education. The contraceptive side could develop lots (think pre-conception stuff in the future)

If it all goes tits up it will be all your faults you know.

Not sure what you're asking. Sounds like an additional job, rather than jumping from one to another, but not sure I get the pros and cons and why you need advice.

Sorry, might just be my fuzzy head late at night

DameHermione · 15/05/2012 22:43

Tell me its fabulous and i haven't just arsed up job1 by pissing off my managers?

OP posts:
DameHermione · 15/05/2012 22:45

And the 2 jobs work well together.

OP posts:
DameHermione · 15/05/2012 22:46

Do they?

I mean i'm used to furtling around with women but i'm not so used to the chaps. But that would add a bit of diversity wouldn't it?

OP posts:
DameHermione · 15/05/2012 22:50

Of course this might be meaningless speculation and i may well not even get an interview. But i like to have it thrashed out and tidy in my mind.

Go for it! I'm sure you'll be fabulous at both and will enjoy the added extras with dealing with men and women instead of just women!!

FamiliesShareGerms · 15/05/2012 23:00

Can you be sacked from job 1 by pissing off your manager? Have you worked out you will continue to do job 1 to their satisfaction alongside job 2?

DameHermione · 15/05/2012 23:07

Blondie - thats more like it!

Families - can't be sacked but the logistics could be chsllenging. But doable.

I actually really would like job2. Think it would be fascinating.

FamiliesShareGerms · 15/05/2012 23:32

In which case I'm with Blondie - go for it!

DaPrincessBride · 15/05/2012 23:34

Go for it! And good luck :)

fuckbucket · 15/05/2012 23:36

Surely the second job will complement the first and add to your skills blah blah thus making you an all round more useful employee? Or does the Health Service not do joined up thinking and career development...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/05/2012 00:22

Definately worth applying Dame- as you say they are both complementary to each other.
But would you be able to jiggle the logistics of the hours.
And what is it about the midwifery that you are less than enamoured at? Is it the night shifts or just the whole damn politics of it?

(Fellow NHS worker who is also feeling the heat out there)
Do you see Job 2 overtaking Job1. Is there as much demand for sexual health nurses as midwifes. (Where I work there is a whole office dedicated to HIV care. That was quite scary , I didn't think it was such a big health problem but maybe I'mm innocent)
