Amen, OP! Haven't read the whole thread but am sick of starting light-hearted threads only to have serious MN'ers pile on and tell me I am BU (on Chat? WTF?). I tried a few last week and over the weekend and just ended up hiding them.

OP I agree some posters can be just nasty. Was it Pagwatch who said something like, its fine to debate and tell people they are wrong, but it doesn't mean you have to be a fucker.

For example some of the responses in the holiday from hell thread are just horrible. Yes the OP is unreasonable and over the top, but ridiculing for example her blog about a bad birth experience is just plain nasty.
