To chuck cat poo on my neighbours path

OK, I'm hoping this won't turn into a bun fight but I'm fuming at my neighbour.

We get on well, chat, help each other out and i've nothing against her cat.

But she's taken to keeping the litter tray outside so it's mostly full of water. Which means her cat has now taken to crapping in our garden. I've done the 'nice' thing and collected it and thrown it in her bin (in a bag I might add). I've spoken to her about sorting the litter tray our so it doesn't shit in my garden and her response was, 'it's not my fault that she prefers your garden' and then nothing happens. A couple of weeks later and several shovels full of shit I've asked her to come and remove the cat poo from my garden a couple of times a week following my 4 yr old DD and then my DH standing in said cat shit, and nothing has happened. I've asked her to do this on two separate occasions now and she's not bothered.

I've now just started to throw it on her path outside her front door! Am I being petty (yes probably) but i'm fed up with my garden stinking and shit being all over my flower beds, lawn and now my strawberry plants (which now stink of cat piss)

What else can I do?

See, I have a mouse problem. We live next to a park, the mice breed outside in the summer and come into the houses during the winter. My neighbours have cats which keep the mouse population down to mostly bareable levels which means I don't have to put poison down or sweep up and disinfect after tons of mouse shit.

The cats do sometimes poo in the garden, but then so do the foxes. A small amount of cat poo in the garden is a very small price to pay for not having to deal with mouse infestations in the kitchen.

The super-soaker idea is a good one, please dont fall out with your neighbour over this.

applecrumple · 15/05/2012 12:17

Maybe you should collect the poo, dry it and make chocolate brownies with it. Then you can go round & give them to her :0

extremepie · 15/05/2012 12:20

What I find annoying is our next door neighbours cat poos in our garden, which we have taken great lengths to turf and tidy up so it is a clean space for our DS's to play.

We have sectioned off part of the garden specifically for our dogs to go to the toilet so the kids don't have to play in the same area they poo and wee.

Seems like a bit of a waste of time if the cat next door just poos indescriminately all over our garden.

See, dog poo is gross but at least dog owners are obliged to pick it up!

Peachy · 15/05/2012 12:26

If ypu;pve spoken to her then YANBU (unless there is a chance her kids would end up in it which is nasty)

We have cats, I suppose they poop elsewhere (although have space AND a litter box ehre), is anyone objects will merrily clean it up for them.

If they speak to me; if they chuck it at me or over the fence where the boys can get it I will be pissed.

TheUnMember · 15/05/2012 12:28

Chucking it over the fence could get you reported to environmental health and then you'd really be in the poo.

thatisall · 15/05/2012 12:31

You can get certain plants that cats don't like the smell of, or those cat things with the scary eyes to scare them away. Ultimately theres nothing that you or your neighbour can do to sep the cat from shitting in your garden.

FWIW we have two cats....dont they bury their poo??

applecrumple · 15/05/2012 12:53

Actually, they don't always. Our neighbours' cars don't.

Ithinkitsjustme · 15/05/2012 13:02

I am SO glad that this thread is still going! Cartainly the cats round here don't bury their own poo. We've tried everything to keep cats out of our garden - best way is let 5 kids loose out of the door whenever they see a cat! I found that those cat repelling things gave me a migraine and my kids could hear it as well, so that's not so good. Orange peel didn't work either. I do think that cat owners should be responsible for clearing up after their pets. It's honestly not that hard to train them to c* somewhere convienient for everyone, it's just laziness. If I have a child I expect to potty train it, if I have a dog I expect to train/ clear p after it, so why not after a cat? Even guineau pigs go to toilet in the same place FFS!

sherocks · 15/05/2012 13:45

I wish I could shit in your garden...

SpringHeeledJack · 15/05/2012 13:55

at last! a Cat Poo Thread

every time I go on local forums they've got about four Dog Poo Threads going

I do sometimes feel peeps giving me the dead eye as I walk past with my slavering beasts canine companions, as if they're just waiting for me not to pick up after them

let's bash some fucking CATS for a change grrrrrr

...oh and cats do bury their shit- just below the surface of your soil. As a result I had to scrub self frequently gardening while preg, because my stuck up neighbours' cats only liked to shit in my garden

grrrrr catshit grrrrrrr

I think that YANBU on the basis that your neighbour has directly caused this problem by putting her cat litter tray outside and making it unusable for her cat. You have spoken to her about it and she hasn't rectified it - all she needs to do is put the litter tray back inside. Fact is, she only cares about herself - the cat is no longer shitting in her house, it's someone else's problem and she doesn't care about who has to clean it up.

I hate cats being owned in densely populated areas - my back flower bed is out of bounds to my children because whatever I try, I cannot stop cats shitting there and I have to shovel it up all the time. My garden is not large and I have no other flower beds so some selfish cat owner has ruined it for our family by not having a litter tray.

Things like birds shitting in the garden are a fact of nature. With cats, however, someone has chosen to buy/get a creature which shits on other people's property. WHY????????? AND CATS DON'T ALWAYS BURY THEIR SHIT - I WATCH THEM!

Peachy · 15/05/2012 14:51

My older cat doesn't bury his own poo, but he does wee and poo directly over the drains which keeps things clean, he also knocks at the door and got me medical attention years ago when I was ill.

On balance, the young one is a bit useless.

How do people know whose cat shits where? Most people here have a cat, if I get cat shit in mine maybe I need to identify whether it's ours, from the Maine Coon that nicks food we put down for ours or the big tom. Hmmmm..... Wink

Peachy · 15/05/2012 14:52

Why did we choose to get a cat?

  1. The cats we have needed rescuing

  2. Lease forbids dogs

applecrumple · 15/05/2012 15:10

My cat did a shit in the shower once. Was a bit random

EldritchCleavage · 15/05/2012 15:17

Do snails even have bottoms?

Have just had rather boozy lunch and I can't stop tittering at this.

thatisall · 15/05/2012 15:25

apple our cat did that once! We weren't quite sure whether to be proud of him?? Lol

RomyMadison · 15/05/2012 16:15

That is so hilarious, had a good laugh from this. What i'd do is bag it up and just leave it on her grass- it'll start piling up and she'll take the hint.

sereneswan · 15/05/2012 16:25

This particular case seems to be complicated by the implication that were the litter tray not soggy they would not use your garden, however this seems largely irrelevant compared with the your totally absurd premise that anyone can (or can be expected to) control where their cats poo!!!!

People have cats. Cats need to be allowed outside. Given that you cannot walk them on leads, they have to roam free. If they roam free they poo where they like. Exactly what bit of this do you think can be changed? Do you want her to have a little word with kitty and tell it not to????

YABU. Oh, and the fish in the sea probably want to fling your business back at you, too.

sjw2012 · 23/05/2012 21:21

Im having the same problem, my neighbours are total lazy tramps & have 6 cats all of which shit all over my front garden, I have none in my back garden due to owning 2 terriers who deter the cats from shitting there.....so this leaves my front garden as fair game toilet! im sick of it i get it on my shoes walk it into the house & the smell with this hot weather is unbearable, if i were to throw it over the fence (which i contemplated) they wouldnt clean it up, they dont cut the grass so I cant see them picking up their animals own crap...i Have thrown cat pepper everywhere..this doesnt work, tried a full bottle of catering vingegar all over the front & have just ordered a cat sonic repeller thing that plugs into the mains as appose to batteries...im hoping this will work, if not I think the dogs will end up being on patrol on the front lawn too!!!
