title says it all really... my 6yr old returned home this weekend with straightened hair. Are your 6 yr olds doing this? Am I just being an old fuddy duddy to even think this might be a bit wrong?

My DD is 6 and I straighten hers for her once in a while. Her hair is very thick and curly and she hates it. I remember how I felt about my hair as a child (thick, long, wavy) and I always wanted to be able to do something with it as my choice. My mum always said no until I cut it off in secret. It's her hair and it will regrow very quickly...I do draw the line at hairdye thoughWink

head lice are already welded onto your hair, they have special headlice glue don'tchaknow

a friend of mine swears blind by her electric-shock treatment comb - not sure you could get near enough a chid's head to kill the little shits with straighteners though (nits, not the DC Grin)

Olympia2012 · 14/05/2012 10:05

No, the head Lice roam free.... It's the nits (eggs) which are glued on.

halcyondays · 14/05/2012 10:06

Why is it wrong? I can't see why it would be a problem once in a while.

UnChartered · 14/05/2012 10:07

that's correct Olympia Blush

even so, they is still stuck! if you burn them they might let go, no?

only on MN

MissLofPubia · 14/05/2012 10:07

I've occasionally used them in the vain hope that it will kill lice! Glad it's not just me Grin

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 10:14

I dont know if it works TBh but at the time I would have tried anything to get rid of the little buggers and they comb out they dont get melted in Grin

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 10:16

I tried the zap comb all it did was zap me Hmm waste of money and a sore hand ,

MarysBeard · 14/05/2012 10:21

I have done it (once) I think to DD1 as she was curious, it looked quite nice but it's not something I'd do often. Have also curled her hair with curling tongs once as well when she sat still long enough for me to do it!

DaenerysTargaryen · 14/05/2012 10:22

If any of you have kids with afro type hair just put loads of hair oil on daily and that will keep the nits at bay, my dd has never had nits and I think its due to the oil her hair needs and also that its quite often plaited so out of the way.

I did find one nit once but it was a lone ranger. Grin

Floggingmolly · 14/05/2012 13:14

It's possible to just blow dry hair straight, you know? No more damage than normal blow drying.

DaenerysTargaryen · 14/05/2012 13:50

Its still a lot of heat though flogging although I agree its better than using straighteners.
