Namely: waking up at 5 for a feed, going back to sleep for just long enough for me to also go back ro sleep, then waking up for long enough that I am unable to get back to sleep when he then gprs back to sleep for another 2 hours.

I am so fucking tired. I've changed my mind, I think i'll get a cat instead. Anyone want a blonde, chubby 4mo old? Free to a good home.

Do you bring him into your bed at 5am? That's what I used to do with DS when he tried this (admittedly he was about 6m, not 4) - usually worked, he'd snuggle down and either sleep or not but he wouldn't be crying and I could doze.

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 14/05/2012 07:03

Oooh, I would have him! Been TTC for a while. I could swap for a cat if you like? I have 3. One does tend to wake me up by sitting on my chest and purring, but unlike with a baby I can close the bedroom door to him and let him find somewhere else to sleep without feeling guilty!

MrsMuddyPuddles · 14/05/2012 07:09

At least you are holding out for a good home, it'd be worrysome if a bad home would do :o

What happens at the second wakeup, beyond being awake? Hungry again? Gas? Nappy? Unconvinced that it isn't playtime? Is there anything you can do at the 5am wake up to prevent the second one?

simperingsally · 14/05/2012 07:55

Just bring him to sleep in your bed. They usually sleep longer when cuddled up to you.
I did co sleep till 2 and a half though and had no sleep deprived nights.
dd 3 net month sleeps in her own bed now but tends to wake up around 4.30-5.30. i just put her in bed between me and dh and sh goes back to sleep cuddling us. she's still asleep now next to me in bed now.

good luck Smile

Before "just putting him in the bed with you" please read up about co-sleeping safely. Duvets are dangerous.

rainydaysarebad · 14/05/2012 08:11

Bring him in your bed! I'm sure he's not like this everyday or is he? 4 month old DS has days where he cries all night or wakes up at 5am but he's good most of the time. I sleep very lightly and As soon as I hear him squeak it's "operation boob in mouth" time, he doesn't seem to wake up when feeding. Also have you tried white noise? It works a treat - used it this morning at 4am and we woke up together at 7.45 today. Good luck.

Also,

rainydaysarebad · 14/05/2012 08:12

Sorry scrap that "also"

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/05/2012 09:28

Um.. We have been co sleeping for the last week or so...

He wakes up Hungry, sometimes needing a poo, after that he thinks it's play time and currently likes to experiment with loud, explosive noises. Not conducive to mummy sleeping whilst on the same floor of the house, never mind in same bed.

I'll happily swap for the cat. You might want to start measures to get lactation going as he is a bottle/syringe/cup refuser, despite being mix fed initially. Hence why i'm so tired despite having very supportive and helpful dh and extended family - noone of them can do the every two hourly feeds.

hah, he's napping again, i'm sleepy and his granny is up. I'm going back to bed.

Mary - will pm you collection details. ;)

Mine wakes up at 4.10am and thats it. Its the bloody birds singing.

5am I can do, 4.10 is a pita.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 14/05/2012 10:56

I totally solved this one.... we all got up at 5am!!! It's actually a lovely time of the day, you can get loads done and, by the time they want another nap, you can put your feet up with a Brew feeling very accomplished.

Thumbwitch · 14/05/2012 12:08

That wouldn't be a solution for me, Cogito! My DH would do it but not me.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/05/2012 13:10

That's what I do cogito, but then i'm knackered for the rest of the day. Plus he's currently a bit velcro... Not so productive
