To consider putting our new trampoline on ebay/freecycle

Its not up yet. DH is being such an utter prat about where it will go in our garden and is suggesting such dangerous ideas, I have warned him that I am just going to get rid of it unless he rethinks.

Problem is that the area is very uneven. His hair-brained idea is that he spreads out and rolls over a load of bark chippings from the stump grinding of a recently cut down tree. He is planning to contain the chippings with a few metal stakes and some old scaffolding planks we have here. I am saying he is just not capable of making a strong, safe platform from this material by himself. Also that within less than a foot of the edge of the trampoline, there will be metal stakes and planks, and you are supposed to have a free fall zone, even if there is a net around the trampoline - not masses of hazards they could impale themselves upon.

DH is a tricky customer when it comes to DIY. He is unaccustomed to it, hates doing it, and even more hates discussing it. So my concerns are being seen as personal criticism and making him even more determined. I have realised I can't stop him doing all this, but I can easily get rid of the trampoline. Drastic, but I am genuinely concerned about safety here.

To put in context, his father has similar schemes and ideas, including last summer when he rigged up some garden stakes with rope around the top of DS's cot to stop him climbing out. Needless to say DS just climbed on them, which was even more unsafe - further to fall, and rickety and wobbly to boot.

ABIU here? I just wish he could listen!!!

Why did you buy it in the first place if you had no-where safe to put it?

YANBU for wanting it gone if not safe.

deliakate · 13/05/2012 13:53

We do, but there is a far better way of doing it that doesn't involve stakes etc. I can see it, DH just can't.

Just put it up without him, rope a friend in to help.

Then he can't put it with the stakes of death [death]

Pippinintherain · 13/05/2012 13:58

Whoops

Can you afford to pay someone to sort it out when your husband's at work? Then just say you got fed up of it and sorted it out yourself.

tyler80 · 13/05/2012 14:07

If you can see a far better way to do it why not just do it yourself?

Sandalwood · 13/05/2012 14:14

Put it up your safe way.

minimisschief · 13/05/2012 17:01

why cant you sort it out

helenthemadex · 13/05/2012 18:08

they are easy enough to put up, a friend and I managed to do my 10ft one with nets etc in just over an hour

Mrbojangles1 · 13/05/2012 18:21

Me and ds put our up

You can do it op don't need oh at all

trixie123 · 13/05/2012 19:44

As I read the OP, its not erecting the trampoline that's the problem, but where to put it. I think getting someone practical in to suggest and execute an idea would be the best way to go. Seems a shame to dump the idea - presumably you bought it because your DC wants one and will enjoy it.

Ithinkitsjustme · 13/05/2012 19:50

Forget putting the trampoline up as it is obviously going to be dangerous and instead of putting it on freecycle, donate it this way! I'm sure I can find somewhere for it to go

BabyDubsEverywhere · 13/05/2012 19:55

Op this sounds ridiculous, your DH clearly has no interest in safety and will find a way to endanger your DC if you keep the damn thing. The only thing for it is to ignore all these grasping mumsnetters and leave it to me to save the day, i will swoop in and remove said offending item before anyone else can be put in such terrible danger.

You're very welcome btw :)

ITHINKITSJUSTME: I may be able to sell you a trampoline at a discount price quite soon, it may even come with a few metal stakes and some old scaffolding planks to make a safe area for it.....you interested???
