About not telling taxi drivers what time my train is?

Ok I admit I CAN be a control freak but this has always annoyed me. I book a cab (a black one) to the train station and ask for it to be here at 12.40train goes at 1.03...I have 2 DC and know that I need plenty of time as I have to buy tickets etc...find platform....the cab operator ALWAYS says "What time's your train?"

I don't want to tell them because I know how much time I need...I think that if I tel them it's at 1.03 they'll push it with the time they come "Oh it's ok to be 5 minutes late for this woman as her train isn't until 1.03"

The station is 5 mins drive from my home.

AIBU to avoid telling them the time of my train?

Erm Edinburgh that is Blush

TidyDancer · 13/05/2012 13:59

Yes, YABU. And quite mad tbh.

I don't know why you're assuming the worst, they will ask so that you have allowed yourself enough time to get there. They know their jobs, you may not.

I'm glad you realise you like to be in control to an excessive extent!

my db was once not asked what time his train was. despite ringing back several times the taxi did not turn up and he missed his train. luckily he was able to stay the extra night and travel back in the morning. he got the bus to the station that time.

we have never used that taxi firm again. this was 1997. we have long memories in our family!

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 13/05/2012 15:02

They ask to make sure they get you there on time.....in these ere parts you ave to give at least 30 minutes or they won't take you.

lilyliz · 13/05/2012 15:26

are you one of the people who books 2 taxis for the same time from different companies just in case the first booked is late and you have a standby,

ramblinrose · 13/05/2012 16:47

Thank you madmouse
I didn't really think it could possibly be true Blush

I KNOW how long it takes to get there...even with roadworks I would make it...it's ten minutes walk but I have scoliosis and can't make it wiith a bag and 2 DC.

Anyway ....I MUST be being Unreasonable but I can't bear it for some reason...I try saying..."I want to get there for 12.50 for eg. and they STILL ask me again...what time's your train? I feel like saying "what time's your bus home?" it's nothing to do with them!

I hire them for a lift...I can manage my own time...if I miscalculate then it's my look out. I suppose I just don't like the way they insist.

Tell them a time ten minutes after you want the taxi, or the time you want to arrive at the station.

They aren't going to check the train timetable Grin

So if you want the taxi for 1250, tell them the train's at 1.

Or ask them why they need to know what time the train is, are they not going to be on time?

moomoo1967 · 13/05/2012 18:53

Tell them the time of the train is 5 mins later then, sorted Grin

moomoo1967 · 13/05/2012 18:54

oops sorry hecate Smile

We don't get asked this by the taxi firm we use when we go to the station.

I'm also confused why people who say they'd don't drive are going on about OP having a taxi for a five minute drive away distance.

It's about 10 minutes by car to our station being traffic dependent- about 3.5 miles away but it takes over an hour usually an hour an half walking in with the DC.

We are use to walking but on a day out it adds a fair bit of time to an already long day and on a bad day when DC are whiny and moany makes them tired and irritable just before we have to start traveling by train on sometimes long journeys and often we have to do fair bit of walking other end. The thought of walking with all the holiday cases as well before we do a 4 hour multiple change train journey is unthinkable.

By bus which as it goes a long windy route takes 30 minutes than a five minute walk from nearest stop we used to do and it can be awkward with DC and luggage. The main reason we don't do buses now is because two adults and, now we pay for two DC, means a taxi, even both ways, is actually cheaper than a bus.

I'm amazed the other non driving parents on here haven't found taxi for short journey an occasional god send.

I've been asked and I either tell them the time I want to be at the station, or I lie and say the train is leaving 15mins earlier than it really is.

But no conspiracy theory, I assume they want me to catch my train and not be delayed or cross at being held up etc. So I just tell them the time I want to get to the station...

And I totally agree about lying for an easy life, much easier than the truth which can be quite convoluted and not actually get you what you want.
