to be cross

AIBU to be cross at the repeated calls for better care of children in care homes as the only response to the sexual exploitation case in Rochdale. Not that I have any objection to improving the lot of children in care, but what about some education of the boys (of all races) who grow into the men who can treat girls and women in this way ?

We cannot control what the education is like in other countries, though. Which is what the issue is here.

Although a lot can be done by schools, if different messagers are being given at home, then again, you are fighting a losing battle.

I personally don't agree that any parent should have the right topull their child out of sex/relationship classes, as they can now.

However we do need to equip women with the skills to be able to protect themselves. Raising self esteem and self worth is one way. A lot of these courses run for the most vulnerable children are victim the cuts in spending, that needs addressing and tbh, if this case can help to put them back in place, then it should be used.

The LA has a duty of care towards the children/young people under it's care and there are changes that has been made.

So whilst i see your point, i think that it isn't applicable in abuse rings involving foreign men, as this was.

I'm not sure all the Rochdale men were 'foreign'. The great majority of them are British citizens; I think only two of them are gong to be deported at the end of their sentences. I also think there are plenty of other men who have opinions like this.
I m not against equipping the girls to take better care of themselves; I just think we ought to be educating the boys too.

I used the term foreign because i have handled cases such as these but on a lesser scale. I didn't want to pinpoint a religion.

This was a paedophile ring, so no amount of education would help. We need the law to be clear and without bias.

Policies need to be in place, as does having the right qualified staff in all of the process.

In terms of general respect for women, then that is something that schools can be involved in, as well as other agencies.

But most children are primarily brought up by mothers, so as well as teaching respect, it is important to show that you value yourself.

I still see parents treating sons very differently to how they treat their daughters and that is the best change that can be made, alongside not accepting disrespect in any form, from out partners.
