To be annoyed at MIL despite living with her..

I have stay with MIL TO BE at the moment and it's not going too well.

She treats my partner like he's still seven. Shouting him to 'have a word' over something silly or just being niggly and annoying.

We do our own shopping, we have our own freezer there but have to share fridges. She keeps eating our food, saying 'there's not point me buying any if that's there'. We're on a really tight budget at the moment, especially because we're paying her 300 a month for the pleasure of sleeping in her box room, so our food budget is limited as it is!
She borrows our car, uses all the petrol, and then puts it back on the drive like she's never even used it.
She complains if we're in the shower for over 5 minutes
She stops up late all night shouting and laughing well into the early hours, but then complains when we're getting up early for work in the morning and happen to make too much noise whispering.
She also does the thing where she shouts my partner, when he replies she ignores him so he then has to go to her... Only for her then to say 'oh I've forgot now!' not in a oh dear I'm forgetful way, but in a HA HA way.

It sounds like I'm being really petty... Am I??? I dont know!

It does seem really mean to profit from your problems. Has the council not been able to provide you with anything else??

I feel she is a Mad loon! Im maybe a bit jealous too, because I know she's going out spending our money in pubs and drinking in the house, when we can't even afford any luxuries at all. The box room was filled with erm... Boxes! Before we came. I don't mind giving her money, not at all, but I think that should cover us using the shower for longer than fives minutes and being able to plug my bloody hair dryer in!

i agree, i can't imagine either my own mother or dp's parents even considering charging us to live there if we were unable to live in our own home for a while.

i assume there is no-one else you can live with?

is it a council house? they must have options.. what would they have done if you'd had no-one you couod stay with?? it might be worth speaking to them

Freeze EVERYTHING and defrost as needed.

Start taking notes. Tell her it's because you want to know how to behave when she has to move in with you in her dotage.

Next time you get out of the car and know she's going to use it next, put a drawing pin on the driver's seat.

:)
