Out for a walk at some local gardens this morning with DD (2) and DH and as we were wandering around a Mum carrying her toddler in front of us commented 'Come on X you're nearly 2 now and you should be running around or you'll get fat like Y'

Of course said Mum was reed thin - both DH and I were a bit Hmm about what she said - not a great way to encourage your child to exercise by commenting about another 'fat' kid???

DS (4) is fascinated by Super Fat Super Skinny and comments about the people with fat tummies and I try very hard to say he shouldn't talk about people like that and it isn't nice - but it's no wonder some kids grow up to tease and poke fun at larger people if their parents talk to them like this mother did to her child.....

MY DS has his story downstairs sometimes wereoff so that DD can settle off to sleep - it's not a 'reward' for coming downstairs...

If my DC come downstairs after bedtime they are indeed banned from entering the room - full stop! They get told to go back to bed right sharpish! Grin

even doctors can't use the word obese anymore....

MsPaperbackWriter · 13/05/2012 20:01

If you turned it over straight away how can he be 'fascinated' by it? Sounds like you let him watch a fair bit of it.

RachelHRD · 13/05/2012 21:37

Don't most children become interested in things you don't allow them to watch??

Getting back to the original point of the thread which was not my DC's TV viewing Hmm I still think that referring to people as 'fat' and 'fat like Y' isn't teaching them to respect other people.......

YANBU, I think the comment from the grown to the toddler was bad but probably fell on deaf ears. And the flaming the OP had for the SSvsSS, and then every other aspect of her routine, was ridiculous. Calm down everybody!

DS (4) is fascinated by Super Fat Super Skinny

you don't get fascinated by coming into the room when it is on.....

c= back pedal much

Yellowtip · 13/05/2012 22:58

Yes OP, you say your DS is fascinated by SSvSS. That strongly implies he sees more than a fleeting moment. Very unhealthy I'd say.

EchoBitch · 13/05/2012 23:05

Maybe she meant Daniel Lambert.

He was a fat man and died young.

A long time ago.

Not a nice thing for her to say but you don't know who she was talking about.

And yes,you decide what your Dc watch.....not them.

Turn the telly off if it's not appropriate...not really that difficult.

Goofymum · 13/05/2012 23:11

Yes, it may be backpeddling, yes OP may not have been 100% on the ball and let DS watch a little too much of SSvsSS on a couple of occasions whilst she was getting his story ready or whatever. A few peeople made the point, it did not need alot of people in quick succession jumping down her throat.

RachelHRD · 13/05/2012 23:12

Oh FFS DS does not watch SSvSS - he has seen a minute or two of a program and probably some adverts - you see worse stuff on the news - end of discussion on the matter. Focus on the original point of the post or don't bother please - I am not going to repeat myself over and over on something which is totally irrelevant

Thank you Goofy at last someone who sees sense and the original point of my post!!
