Made an appointment to have a quote for new windows for MY home. I have had two subsequent emails addressed to MR J Mumof4sons.

Mr J Mumof4sons is my XH. He hasn't lived here since he ran off with whore OW 2.5 years ago. The house is mine - not his. It is my money that will be paying for windows, not his. His name wasn't even mentioned when booking the appt. urgh!!!

This company has already pissed me off royally and I haven't even had a quote yet. AIBU?

If a bloke makes the appointment, they will insist that his wife/DP is present.

if you are selling anyway what about finding a local carpenter to refurbish your existing windows?

mercibucket · 10/05/2012 18:00

Rofl this also happened to me and I sent him packing. Dh has no interest in windows, gutters, doors. If he was there we'd never get anything
Can't see why they persist in this technique

Of course its a sexist thing, don't be so daft.

TheCrackFox · 10/05/2012 18:06

They have done you a huge favour really - any company that has sales staff that "won't pitch to the bitch" are invariably expensive. Use a small, local company as it will probably be half the price.

RevoltingPeasant · 10/05/2012 18:08

Tangential, but......

This last weekend I went to open a new current account. Made the appt in my name.

Bank lady walks out to the waiting room to meet us (DP had come along as we were doing stuff in town). 'Hello Mr Peasant' she says to him - 'Peasant' is not his name btw.

I pointed I was Peasant and I was opening the account. She still spent much of the time talking to him, effectively. Angry

YANBU. I would send back any correspondence with a note stating Mr. XH does not live at this address. If you would like to sell him windows please contact him at new address.
God I hate this kind of crap.

Mrskbpw · 10/05/2012 18:28

I hate this. I also control all family admin but everything comes addressed to my husband. When my granny died in 2004 we found recent post addressed to my grandpa, who died in 1974 and who never lived in that house. Dreadful.

I used to sell double glazing when I was a student, sounds like things haven't changed at all.

A friend of mine recently had hers replaced, the original quote was £20k and the salesman knocked it down to £7k. Imagine if they'd just accepted the first quote! Shock

knowitallstrikesagain · 10/05/2012 18:38

YANBU. Those of you who say you wouldn't mind an email addressed to DH have missed the point that OP doesn't have a DP with this name.

If I make an appointment, I expect the person I spoke with to have the courtesy to remember that I was a woman and to believe that I might possibly have independant means to buy something!

HecateTrivia · 10/05/2012 18:39

It is extremely sexist if a woman contacts a company and asks for information and they reply to the man with the information! Reply to the person who asked for the information, not the person with a penis!

It goes back to the 'head of the household' days. Man earns money and makes decisions. Woman bakes bread and has children and does the shopping from her 'housekeeping' dished out by her lord and master.

Those days are gone gone gone gone gone and good riddance.

ovariantryst · 10/05/2012 18:45

What about buying cars - that really annoys me. I know a lot about engineering. All my H cares is that it has somewhere to plug in his iPod. But still they persist in talking to him as if I am not there...
