To wish I had been old enough to enjoy the 80s?

Just listening to some brilliant 80s songs on my iPod and was just thinking that I would have loved to have been in my teens/ twenties to have been able to enjoy the music, fashion, movies etc. I think the music especially, was brilliant, such a great mix of everything to suit all tastes. I was born in the eighties, so I can sort of remember the 90s, which were also fab, but the last decade I think, has been crap, music wise. AIBU?

Another great thing about the '80s it was very cool to be pale - obviously not circa Wham, Club Tropicana - but for anyone into anything a bit alternative. Chanel used to do this foundation which was the opposite of a tinted moisturiser - specifically for making one even paler. Was great topped of with the thick eyebrows, and yes indeed black lipstick. Despite wearing a load of slap the basic prep was less involved (except the hair crimping - that was a pain).

Oooh, MrsDV - the Farmer's Boys!! My best mate at school had a huge crush on Mark (came from the same town, I think) - she wrote to him and he wrote back!! I think she slept with the letter under her pillow for months (never kissed him, though Grin)

Da youth all look so boring these days, round this way they all look like little WAGs, just like the mothers. In our day you wanted to look the opposite to your mother. it was a badge of honour to get a look of disapproval, the fashions were fun, dammit.

I used to buy that Chanel undercoat! It was beautiful.
I attribute the fact I have few wrinkles to my avoidance of the sun throughout the 80s
Does anyone remember Antenna the hairdressers?
The epitome of 80s 'so cool we can bearly speak' . I worked there!

yy I remember Antenna! Didn't they invent those gaily coloured fake dreads? I coveted those Envy

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 15/05/2012 11:30

I had them

Some of the music was okay and fashions, but I really don't want to hanker back to the eighties thanks. The political situation was awful

High unemployment , 4 channels on the TV (Channel 4 started in the 80's), the start of yuppies and the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Strikes everywhere, collapse of steel, shipbuilding and mining leading to men being slung on the dole. Some areas that had these industries have never recovered even now. Falklands-nuff said.Poll Tax riots.

Late eighties was better with Gorbachev and Glasnost and Perestroika leading to collapse of the Iron Curtain and more or less the end of communism. Jury's out on whether that was actually better or not :o.

I suppose it was okay at the time, when we were living through it, but I really don't want to go back.
