to complain about this taxi driver

I just took a taxi from the hospital to my home after having physio due to an injury I got when I was in a car accident.

The taxi driver picked me up and in the first roundabout almost crashed. Basically he didn't see another car that almost hit him on the side. He then stopped (in the middle of the roundabout!!!!!) to shout at the other driver and swear at him.
Baring in mind I was in an accident only 2 months ago this was not good. I should have just got out of the car there and then but I didn't. I'm also 13 weeks pg.

He then carried on and kept wanting to talk about really weird stuff, asking about why I was on hospital etc and then told me how he had to have a DNA test to make sure he was the father of his son. He also used language that I don't deem appropriate at all.

The stupid thing is that I booked a taxi through a taxi company and when this guy turned up I thought he was from there but he wasn't. So he should not have picked me up at all! It wasn't a minicab, a porper licensed taxi but still.

I feel all shaky now I am at home and really want to complain about him to the council.

AIBU to do this? Am I just being oversensitive?

Trust your instincts and complain - he sounds dangerous on the road and a bit odd to boot. As it was not the company you booked, do you know which co he was from - I would contact them in the first instance.

He is not with a company, just a hackney driver on his own. I know the plate number and called the council. They said I will have to fill in some paperwork that they will send in the post.

It's just not right. He didn't even ask if I was ok...weird.

yes I would complain, or at least note it in writing so that the council have it on his file should anything else arise

A taxi company would not normally send a black cab. He wasnt wrong to pick you up, black cabs can pick up anywhere, and it was your error to get in, but he still sounds like he isnt a good cabbie and needs reporting to the council.

Florabeebaby · 09/05/2012 15:15

I know it was my fault for getting in but I did actually say 'Are you for Flora?' when I got in. And he didn't correct me.

The hospital is always so busy as well with taxis and cars...should have been more careful.

I mean I understand he wanted the fare, that's fair enough and normally wouldn't bother me but as he turned out be strange and a bit aggressive I am not so happy. Especially after just being in an accident not long ago.

A taxi driver once asked me and my friend to stand on his chest. We were on the way back from a night out wearing stilettos. He stopped the cab and laid down in the middle of the road- a busy London street Confused

Yes, we did it.

And yes, we complained.

YANBU BTW.

FaceForRadio · 09/05/2012 15:21

Let that be a lesson.

Still, you need to continue with the complaints procedure.

He seems rather odd to me.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 09/05/2012 15:50

You never, never ask a taxi driver "are you for......."? Just ask them who they are for!

Florabeebaby · 09/05/2012 16:44

I know, I know...

And what makes it worse is that my DH is a taxi driver...he is going to tell me off too! Grin

Flora you were coming out of the hospital, probably a little distracted and you are obviously usually careful. Two choices, chalk it up and forget it or complain and the choice depends on whatever will give you peace of mind.

Tethers that's made me strangely wistful for my teetering about drunk younger days. I'd have done it too Wink

carernotasaint · 09/05/2012 17:28

Above is my experience with a taxi driver 2 weeks ago.

Florabeebaby · 10/05/2012 13:53

The council sent me a letter asking for a witness statement and it all just seems a bit too much...I thought they would make a note and mayeb gove him a warning.
But there is talk of courts etc.
I think I will just leave it and make sure I am more careful in the future.

And tell my friends not to take a taxi with the number he drives!!
