Would you be irked if a friend's child deliberately cut up one of the letters in your DC's copy of the Jolly Postman?

I am a bit. I should get over myself shouldn't I?

Like yesterday, my 3 y o had got hold of my hair serum & spilt 80% of a new bottle on the carpet. I didn't go mad at her but the waste still upsets me.

I think parents love the postman book more than kids. It's crying out to be messed about with and we're there hovering over desperate to get all the pieces back in the right pockets! Get yourself a copy and keep it pristine!

Oh cutting , that's sweet :)

Well, I would be slightly irked and of course willful destruction is wrong, but overall I would probably accept the slightly damaged one from your friend and move on and forget about it - after all, it is only a book and even the most sensible and kind 6 yos do very silly things at times.
