AIBU to want one of those nursing rocking chairs...

... even though I've managed to bf my 15 month old perfectly well without one until now?

DH is campaigning for DD to move into her own room soon (she's currently in a cot in our room, with occasional forays into our bed for a night-time feed). I've said this is fine, so long as I have somewhere comfy to sit when DD wakes at night. BUT, it does seem a bit silly to hanker after a nursing chair when I've bfed without one for this long!

When they are in their own room it makes a world of difference having a comfy chair. I would get something, an Ikea Poang chair is, IME, a nice compromise chair if you don't want to spend a fortune. Millions on ebay.

I would love a feeding chair but we dont have room. I managed to feed son for two and a half years without one but i would still like one to feed dd. I go to a local shop that has a feeding chair in their bf room and its great.

if you have the room id say go for it. they are great aren't they. I loved the one in our bf room in our local childrens center. and wanted one at home but we had no room.

CharlieMouseWillDoIt · 08/05/2012 10:19

I've seen the Ikea chair too, but haven't sat in one for long enough to assess it's night-time comfort! Space is a bit of an issue with us too, as is money, as I don't really want to spend a fortune.

Its not a purpose built feeding chair, you need a cushion but I've spent 20 months feeding happily in it. Its not perfect but definitely fit for purpose.

My mom got me a rocking nursing chair for my daughters room on ebay, in pristine condition for 50 quid. I don't BF but it's wonderful for bedtime bottle!

I hanker after one too, and I don't even have a baby -my youngest is 4 years old now. They are lovely and the kind of thing you'd use for ever. If I had somewhere to physically put it, I would be getting the credit card out right now!

Pinkiemum · 08/05/2012 10:42

I love my nursing rocking chair, used it with my DD and my now 6 month DS, much more comfortable than breastfeeding in bed for me. Plus id baby is upset you can rock it easily. I got mine off the intenet and had to put it together but it was much cheaper £100 as opposed top £300 - £400 I saw in the shops.

kohl · 08/05/2012 10:57

Oh do it do it do it!!
I WISH I had managed to convince dh to get one-dd is 18m now and still nursing at night-I dream of it as I sit, hunched in bed....I am absolutely getting one for the next dc, no question. We have no room but I really don't care-we'll have to chuck the tv.

revolutionconfirmed · 08/05/2012 10:58

YANBU. I wish I had a nursing chair but due to lack of money and space it was unnecessary :(

Do it for me! Vive le revolution!

QuiteTrash · 08/05/2012 10:59

You dont have to bf to want to rock your child. I.e when your baby is older if you arent bf you'll still use it. Ill babies/toddlers at night being rocked. Or just an off night. Or still bf. I say go for it! I got mine second hand for £30 I love it.

Try GumTree.

CharlieMouseWillDoIt · 08/05/2012 11:21

Thanks everyone! I think I'll do it! I've got an eye on one on eBay, but I'll also have a look on Gumtree/Pre-loved etc.

DD's room is big enough, it's just all the other stuff in there that's the problem (small house, no storage elsewhere). Oh well, just have to get the tape measure out and see what re-arranging the furniture will do.

i have the an Ikea Poang chair and it is amazing so comfy DP falls asleep in it all the time :)

We are going to keep it in the living room once ds stops feeding at night

Debsbear · 08/05/2012 11:56

If you can afford it and you've got room why not? I'd have loved one and I fed 5 babies (not at the same time Grin without. In fact I wouldn't say no now, but we haven't got any room.

Bingdweller · 08/05/2012 12:06

Go for it! I love mine & wish I had one for my DS, i got a second hand one for DD. It's great for settling them when they are not well too.

Try putting a wanted ad on all of the usual local sites. I got mine for £50 - total bargain!

Rhubarbgarden · 08/05/2012 12:16

Nothing beats the Ikea Poang for breast-feeding comfort in my opinion.
