is fucking ridiculous - as I told the bloke on the door who was pointing to a sign as he stopped me from going in. Of course I didn't bother on principal.

It was in Spitalfields this afternoon and I noticed a few shops down another which was advertising 'free entry'.

Also the assistant in another shop who wouldn't let me and DD go in changing room together 'because thats the rules', also pissed me off and the guy in the curry cafe, after we had eaten a slap up meal just couldn't provide a half protion of biryani to take away - they only do a normal sized portion.

Grrrrrrr

I pay £1 to park in the matalan car park, but you can have it refunded in the shop when you buy ££?

Does that count?

I have been to Spitalfields and could not believe the attitude of some of the shopowners and stall holders there... I was with a friend who was visiting from the USA and she wanted to get some photos... a perfectly normal thing for a tourist to do in what is essentially a famous touristy shopping area in London.. but no... she was told very rudely by one person not to take any "fucking photos"... there are signs saying "no photography"... signs saying "do not touch the clothes"... "do not try the sunglasses on"...

It put me completely off ever going back there..

I find Portobello Road to be a lot more customer friendly, even if the prices are ridiculous.

helloclitty · 07/05/2012 17:30

OMFG! I won't be going then!

BonnieBumble · 07/05/2012 17:33

Very tacky. YANBU. It would suggest that they know they won't be able to shift their tat and are having to cover their costs.

5madthings · 07/05/2012 17:35

OMG madness! strikes it off list of places to ever visit, bit like the baby shop in whitby? that i was going to go in until the woman said you couldnt take pushchairs in, so i would have to take my sleeping 9mth old lump out of the pushchair and carry her around whilst i had a look! oh the common sense of a baby shop you cant take a pushchair in Hmm

helloclitty · 07/05/2012 17:35

So they are basically saying we are a cheap tourist trap, £1 really?

TheMonster · 07/05/2012 17:36

£1 to go into a shop? madness!

squeakytoy · 07/05/2012 17:38

It all started when shops began charging you for carrier bags in my view.. surely if you bloody buy something in their shop, they should be happy that you are going to give them advertising as you wander off with your purchase.. but no..

BBQJuly · 07/05/2012 17:44

YANBU, it's ridiculous.
