to think that suppliers putting advertising cards out at weddings is tacky ?

Background - I have a cake business that I run from home round work/child/home commitments. I am always trying to think of simple ways to get more business.

I do a bit of casual work at a hotel where there are lots of weddings. Recently it seems to be the trend for the florist/photographer/whoever to leave business cards (and in the case of 1 photographer a massive advertising easel in the wedding breakfast room of which the bride had no warning). I have just been looking on a local competitor's website and she puts up a tentfold card next to her cupcake towers with "congratulations" and a massive advertisting logo underneath.

AIBU to think this is very tacky and that the couple have paid good money for your service so should not be expecting their wedding day to be an opportunity to flog your business ?? Or do people genuinely not mind ? I would have had a pink fit if any of the suppliers had done it at my wedding

it's very unsubtle! surely if people were impressed they would ask for business details themselves.

Don't think so - they are in every single picture in her gallery. I can't imagine there would be too many brides that would be that desperate for a couple of quid off their wedding cake to have a massive advert next to it

tacksville again, but... at my wedding the owner of the venue came and found me asking who had made and decorated my cake and how much it had cost as it was the biggest cake he had ever seen in years, as in the layers being big, i only had 3 tiers, so he could recommend them, I explained the cake had been decorated by a lady 200 miles away so not much use to him but the cake maker was my brother, who handily was at the wedding ..who would have thought! LOL! I said if you think the size is impressive or something like that, you should taste it.
He admitted they actually tasted all cakes when it was taken off to be sliced for the guests, so I think Word of mouth is what is important, find out what the owners/managers of venues think of your product.
on another note my brother didn't decorate the cake because he said he couldn't do that, turns out 13 years later he has been entering cake decoration comps for 20 years plus...I found this out at his wedding and he admitted he had not only made but decorated his wedding cake...GIT! not really. :)
