Yes, I know it's the daily fail but some of these are not that bad

Ive got a picture of DS1 with an empty beer bottle and in a dog cage. Very harmless.

He went into the cage when we put it up of his own accord.

DrCoconut · 05/05/2012 11:11

The gun is probably a replica. No one would let a child that age have a real one. The rights and wrongs of gun imagery aside, pretend ones are not illegal so most likely no offence has been committed. The rest of it is questionable taste at times but most look set up. The boy with SN is said to be from "little people big world", can anyone vouch for that?

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 05/05/2012 11:12

If a kid goes into a cage I can understand taking a photo of them for yourself. But putting photos like that on the internet does encourage some moronic parents to force their kids into situations like getting into a cage, for a photo.

tbh I don't find pictures of kids with empty beer bottles, etc at all funny, but it is not like balancing a baby precariously or duct taping a kid to a table.

Morloth · 05/05/2012 11:13

What?! Children shouldn't drink alcohol?

Who knew?

I hope you have called your DD and apologised for your neglectful ways TheUNmember, perhaps offer therapy?

ClaireDeTamble · 05/05/2012 11:13

The picture of the boy duct taped down is a still taken from the TV programme Little People Big World (Zach Roloff) according to the comments and is taken out of context.

The gun picture is shocking, as is the bike one - some of the others are funny, some are just meh.

I have a picture of my DD drinking out of a beer bottle when she was about 2.5 at a party - she wanted beer like daddy's so we washed out a bottle and put fizzy water in it - no harm caused, major tantrum prevented. Also have a picture of her drinking fizzy water out of a wine glass. It hardly makes her abused or neglected.

monkeymoma · 05/05/2012 11:14

"The gun is probably a replica. No one would let a child that age have a real one"

does that make it okay? what does that teach the children about gun safety? if they are in a gun culture (which they might be if there are such convincing replicas, it doesn't look like a cowboys and indians toy) then it is VITAL that they learn to respect guns and not play with them, letting a baby treat a replica like that is not going to instil a proper healthy fear/respect

KazzaRazza · 05/05/2012 11:15

Whilst some of the photos are disturbing and not to be laughed at, the photo of the young man duct taped to the table is actually Zach Roloff from Little People, Big World. He is very capable, and having watched the show, it would not surprise me if this was a stunt set up by him and his (average size) twin brother.

TheUnMember · 05/05/2012 11:16

I don't need call her: she's still duct-taped to the coffee table behind me. :o

Birdsgottafly · 05/05/2012 11:18

the disabled boy duct-taped down

That is from a spoof television show, where the brothers are playing continual ranks/doing dares with each other.

The gun one's are the worst, safety should be taught from the moment that they are allowed around them.

Morloth · 05/05/2012 11:21

Convenient.

We did discuss the relative merits of duct tape as a childcare solution after watching the Mythbusters episode with it on the island.

You could duct tape DS to the table when he is intent on something, he probably wouldn't notice.

Birdsgottafly · 05/05/2012 11:22

"The gun is probably a replica. No one would let a child that age have a real one"

There are instances of children shooting each other after playing with guns, every few months, so not everyone does follow gun safety and lets their untrained children handle them.

insancerre · 05/05/2012 11:25

The 2 that really upset me are the one with the gun and the kid taped to the table.
I hope the gun is a toy and have seen that the kid taped to the table is in fact a tv star in America
Most are in bad taste I still don't think that they are as shocking as the mail make out.

pictish · 05/05/2012 11:28

I don't like the gun one. At all.
Or the clown one!!!!

The rest are quite funny.
Mind you - the couple pulling the pram behind their scooter are Shock

scarletforya · 05/05/2012 11:31

How are people only seeing these pictures now? They're going around the internet for donkeys years. Confused

pictish · 05/05/2012 11:32

I've seen a handful of them before, but not all of them.

Morloth · 05/05/2012 11:34

Yeah I remember seeing the toddler axe one with a funny caption years ago.

Think it was LiveJournal.

ClaireDeTamble · 05/05/2012 11:34

Slow news day at the daily fail? I mean it's not like there's anything important to report on- you know, like the Tories getting trounced in the local elections Wink

Rikalaily · 05/05/2012 11:53

I'm sure that the lad who is duct taped to the table is one of the twins from 'Little people big world' , he's a little person, his twin brother is normal sized and was probably the one who taped him up. Thier parents are really sensible.

Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2012 11:56

I assume I haven't seen them before as I don't google 'parents taking bizarre and dangerous pictures of their children' Confused

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 05/05/2012 12:00

Yes on googling it is the Roloff lad - shame on you (yet again) Daily Mail for peddling this as abuse Hmm

TomatoFish · 05/05/2012 12:07

For some reason the one I really really don't like is the one of the child on the back of a bike being completely squashed by a big board (or something Confused) I think that one just shows complete disregard for the childs comfort. Poor little thing Sad It really quite upset me. At least the child has a helmet on though I suppose.

The lobster one is quite funny though...

FrothyOM · 05/05/2012 12:13

YABU although most of the pictures look like staged jokes they are not very funny ones and the one with kid on the back of the bike was clearly cruelty.

whenskiesaregrey · 05/05/2012 12:19

I really don't like the ones where children are being help by clowns/ other scary things when they are quite obviously terrified. Why would you want to scare your child like that?! And then take a picture? Poor kids :(

Oakmaiden · 05/05/2012 12:22

They pretty much all look like staged photos, rather than dreadful parents neglecting or abusing their poor children.

None of them are particularly funny, but hardly any of them make me think anything other than that the DM are really trying too hard to drum up outrage with their labelling.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 05/05/2012 13:14

That "ugly children" picture is used on birthday cards, I've seen it for sale in a shop but the sign said "keep off the grass" and it had one of those 'Susan would never disobey the park keeper again' type slogans on it.

I don't think the "I still live with my parents" one was bad at all. Rubbish t-shirt, interesting boots, but nothing worse than the hideous parade of 70's photo's my uncle is uploading to Facebook as I type. I'm thanking god I'm just a baby in most of those photo's, but where my mother managed to find Daisy Duke shorts for a newborn I will never know!
