True but luckily we have a great 3rd party. Oh, no sorry, used to have...

entropygirl · 04/05/2012 14:47

very very very true.

On the political compass all the major parties are in the top right (captalist, authoritarian) while most of the population occupy the bottom left (socialist, liberal)

Its a bit fucked up really.

I would like to vote for SCIENTIFIC METHOD. Lets not argue about how to do things, instead we just do which ever thing has the most objective evidence to support it....no more party politics needed...

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/05/2012 14:52

Much as I would like that in principle, entropy, evidence is constantly contested. Note the terrifying creationists in the US with their 'scientists' and 'research'. My DH is keen on this and calls it a technocracy. Nerd.

I'm tempted to think Belgium had a good solution - they managed fine with no government at all for a couple years recently. The civil servants and others who make stuff happen just got on with it and actually managed to evaluate a few policies before they got changed again.

entropygirl · 04/05/2012 15:06

Well of course science is contested and evidence increases and changes, but at any given moment there is a most likely to be right answer.

The problem of creationists is one of politicians not understanding how science works...if we ditch the politicians then we wont have the problem.

Sorry I should have said that everyone that I know is a socialist liberal

Franziska · 04/05/2012 15:12

As much as I'd like to think that most people in the UK are liberal socialists, I doubt it's true. The main political parties fight over the centre ground between the swing voters such as Mondeo Man and Worcester Woman for a reason.

entropygirl · 04/05/2012 15:16

Yeah but fundamentally politicians think government, rules, regulation, and the nanny state are a good thing. They think they can spend our money more effectively. Most people disagree with a lot of that.

There will never be an anarchist political party for very obvious reasons....we would just tell everyone to get on with it...

entropygirl · 04/05/2012 15:17

The first rule of anarchist party summer camps is.....

wolvesdidit · 04/05/2012 16:22

We are joining the socialist workers' party. I read their manifesto in town and agree with nearly all of it. Time for a properly left option I think.

SofaKing · 04/05/2012 17:11

Agree wolves. We used to have a good socialist option in Scotland, but the whole Tommy Sheridan thing fragmented the party into SSP and Solidarity, and lost them all credibility Angry.
I didn't vote yesterday because not a single party represented my left wing views. Judging by the poor turnout, I'm not the only one to feel disenfranchised by the major political parties.
How long will it be before there is no democracy left, as politicians remain so out of touch fewer people elect them, and eventually a tiny minority of the country pick its leader from a pool of unsuitable candidates?
